Songfacts®:

  • In this heartfelt tune, Scotty McCreery basks in the radiant allure of his wife Gabi. The song revolves around their plans for a delightful evening out. As Gabi gracefully strolls down the stairs, Scotty is utterly captivated by her stunning beauty.

Baby why you gotta wear them jeans
Hair down and a white tank top
Baby why you gotta be so mean

Unable to resist her magnetic charm, he finds himself irresistibly drawn to her.

Looking so good I can't stop
My hands from touchin' your body
You know I love it but I got to ask
Baby why you gotta be like that

As a result, their intended timely arrival at the party, scheduled for around 8:00, becomes a mere footnote in their love story. Time slips away, and before Scotty and Gabi know it, it's past 10:00 when they finally reach the gathering.

So I set down my whiskey and you kiss me
You lean your back against the wall
When we walk in and it's past ten
    I'm a tell em' it's your fault

Scotty playfully leaves it to the imagination as to what the loved-up couple got up to between 8.00 and 10.00.
  • "Why You Gotta Be Like That" drew inspiration from a real-life experience. "My wife Gabi and I had a date night the evening before I wrote 'Why You Gotta Be Like That,'" explained McCreery. "She came downstairs looking gorgeous as usual and, well... the song tells the rest of the story."
  • McCreery co-wrote the playful song with James McNair and Jordan Schmidt. The trio also wrote the Same Truck deluxe version cut "Nothin' Right" alongside Jared Mullins. "Writing with James and Jordan is always so much fun," said McCreery, "and I think that genuine feeling comes through in the song as well."
  • Scotty McCreery paid a heartfelt tribute to his Puerto Rican heritage by joining forces with Colombian singer-songwriter GUSI to re-record the track. The newly envisioned rendition, titled "Why She Gotta Be Like That," intertwines Latin guitar embellishments into its fabric. In this version, McCreery delivers the first verse in English while GUSI takes on the second verse in Spanish. As the song progresses, their voices blend harmoniously, seamlessly merging both languages on the bridge and chorus.
  • The up-tempo "Why She Gotta Be Like That" diverges from the traditional country music structure, creating a bilingual jam. It becomes a noteworthy addition to the rich tapestry of country-Latin collaborations, harkening back to iconic duets like Willie Nelson's partnership with Julio Iglesias on timeless hits like "To All The Girls I've Loved Before." The tradition continues with recent collaborations such as Carrie Underwood's alliance with David Bisbal on "Tears of Gold," Midland's Spanish rendition of "Drinkin' Problem" featuring Jay De La Cueva, and Kane Brown's remix of "Lost in the Middle of Nowhere" alongside Becky G.
