Songfacts®:

  • This hard-hitting dancehall track finds Sean Paul linking up with David Guetta. The song also features guest vocals from American singer Becky G.
  • The Jamaican rapper and French music producer worked on the song for a couple of years. Paul told Billboard: "David Guetta put his special touch on it. He's a very amazing producer. Just when I thought he can't find no better hook than this one, he finds a better hook."
  • The song initially featured vocals by Shakira instead of Becky G. Speaking about the track in June 2017, Sean Paul explained: "I got something kind of more poppy coming in a little while, with Shakira. The song's called 'Mad Love', it's about being mad and having love, it's more sexy. It's not about love, it's the sexiness."

Shakira is one of the listed songwriters on the Becky G version.
