Songfacts®:

  • "Never Gonna Be The Same" is Sean Paul's tributes to loved ones who have died. Among them:

The reggae artist Daddigon, who was murdered in Kingston, Jamaica on January 27, 2005. Daddigon was good friends with Sean Paul and worked with him as a member of the Dutty Cup Crew.

Nicole Wynter, his girlfriend when they were teenagers. She died from a brain tumor when she was 17. "After she died, I saw her in one or two dreams and she was OK, smiling at me," Sean told The Guardian. "I felt better after that. She was special to me."
  • The song is part of Sean Paul's 2005 album The Trinity, which includes the #1 hit "Temperature." "Never Gonna Be The Same" was released as a single in some territories, and although it was never a hit, many have found solace in the song when mourning loved ones of their own.
  • Sean Paul made a video for this song that includes photos of the loved ones the song is about. It was directed by Jessy Terrero, who also did Sean's "We Be Burnin'" as well as videos for Jennifer Lopez ("I Luh Ya Papi") and Maluma ("Felices Los 4").
