Zooey Deschanel, who is the "She" in She & Him, told The Sun April 2, 2010 about this song: "I kept thinking about the Orpheus myth and how I could use it as a parallel for the story in this song. I had just bought an old baby grand piano at a thrift store for my living room and I recorded the demo for this song on that piano. It was a nice way to christen the instrument."
David Bowie's "Space Oddity" tells the story of an astronaut who cuts off communication and floats into space. The BBC used it extensively in their coverage of the 1969 moon landing - an odd choice considering the lyrics.
