Songfacts®:

  • STP lead singer Scott Weiland wrote this song about Janina Castaneda, who he would later marry. It's a romantic song about being so engrossed in a person that you want to be with them in death - Weiland even wants to drink her bath water.
  • What Weiland called "The mish-mash state of the music business" was an influence on this track. He said in his autobiography, "Everyone seemed to be living or dying but making real money."
  • STP bass player Robert DeLeo and his brother, guitarist Dean DeLeo, wrote the music for this track. Robert cites it as one of his favorites.
  • If you should die before me ask if you could bring a friend
