Mommy I Want a Girlfriend

Album: not on an album (1969)

Songfacts®:

  • According to Heather MacLachlan in her Cornell University PhD dissertation Revealing The Heart: The Popular Music Industry In Yangon, Burma, "Mommy I Want a Girlfriend" was the "first own tune pop song" from Burma.

It was written by Takatho Tun Naung in 1967, and was entirely his own creation, recording it on his own equipment in his dormitory room at Rangoon University. By 1969, copies of it were delighting fans all over Burma, but it was not until 1971 that it was recorded professionally, when U Ba opened the country's first professional recording studio. >>>
