Songfacts®:

  • In the song writing process, there are times when you sit down to write a song thinking it's about one subject, and it turns into something else entirely. Such is the case with this song. Explains lead singer Steve Adams, "It's one of the Jesus Songs that I love, and I wrote it thinking it was about my twin sister, and then I ended up realizing it was about me. That was part of me, that's probably the one that took the most out of me to write.
I don't set much stock by my abilities, I try not to get too involved and pat myself on the back. You write a song, record it, think it's really good, and then maybe six months later you're playing it live, and it suddenly pops into my head, 'Oh my God, this isn't about this, this is about that.' That's what happens to me. I don't know if it happens to other people. You usually find they're not about what you thought they were about six months down the line."
But does that realization cause him to sing the song any differently? Not in this case, he says, "because it's only got so many notes." (Read the full interview with Steve Adams)
