Songfacts®:

  • Over a lively arrangement with a blend of a rhythm section, guitars, flute and backing vocals, we hear of somebody who was "too good to be forgotten." Eugene Record's lead vocal recounts the story of being sidetracked by an alluring girl on his journey home. One thing led to another and from then on he never let her leave his side.
  • Released as the fourth single from The Chi-lites self-titled sixth studio album, "Too Good To Be Forgotten" reached #10 in the UK. For some reason, this catchy song wasn't released as a single in the US.
  • Eugene Record co-wrote "Too Good To Be Forgotten" with soul singer-songwriter Barbara Acklin. Other songs they collaborated on for The Ch-Lites include "Have You Seen Her," "Stoned Out of My Mind" and "Toby."
  • In 1986 the British reggae/ska/pop band Amazulu covered "Too Good To Be Forgotten." It was a worldwide hit, peaking at #5 in the UK, #26 in the Netherlands and #31 in Germany.
  • Amazulu comprised five women and one man, including female lead vocalist Anne-Marie Ruddock, so they changed the song's gender. On Amauzlu's take, Ruddock falls in love with a boy named Benny.
