  • Frontman Liam Fray told the NME February 16, 2010 about this paean to the city he was raised in: "I wasn't sure at first about it being the first song on the album and calling it 'the Opener.' But in the end it stuck. I'm really fond of that song. The structure is f---ing insane. It's a love letter to Manchester, basically: a song that says, 'I miss you.'"
