Songfacts®:

  • Dead Weather vocalist Alison Mosshart told Artist Direct about the song's lyrical content: "That was really inspired by the music. I had four lines of it written in my notebook, and I was flipping through it when they started to play that song. The rest of the song just wrote itself. I remember that one came really easily. The words fell into place, and it made perfect sense."
  • Jack White, the group's drummer and producer, told The Sun May 7, 2010 that this song was inspired by Lady Gaga. He explained: "I was thinking of the type of song a contemporary musician would write so I started thinking about her. I started thinking of how she would write the music to this song and got quite into being Lady Gaga in an odd way."

He added: "The lyrics are all from Alison, who was coming from a different direction. What I love about Alison's lyrics are her metaphors. They're really truthful and come from a real place. I like how she twists them to go along with the story she is telling-her lyrics are very visual."
