Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the second single from the American alternative rock band the Goo Goo Dolls' 10th studio album, Magnetic. The song premiered on US radio stations on July 23, 2013 and was officially released the same day.
  • Songfacts asked frontman John Rzeznik if are there any recurring lyrical themes on Magnetic? He replied: "Yeah, when I look back on it now, the theme that really sticks out for me, or the thread that kind of runs through all the songs on this album is that life is moving really quickly, and I better get up, get out and live it before it's too late."
  • Goo Goo stickman Mike Malinin told Modern Drummer magazine about his percussion work on the track: "This was the most interesting song for me to record. We cranked the mic on the snare drum and I played a pattern with brushes as softly as I possibly could. I liked the feel we were getting that way. Then I went back and recorded snare hits and kick drum, with shaker at the top. It was a fun experiment, and I think it's one of the best songs on the album."
  • This was the last Goo album to feature Mike Malinin, who was ousted from the band in December 2013. Malinin, who had taken a month-long tour break to spend time with his wife and newborn twins, sued his bandmates for wrongful dissociation from partnership and breach of fiduciary duty. He claimed his firing was "was clearly timed to inflict injury upon him and his new family at the worst possible time" and that "punitive damages are appropriate to punish such sociopathic conduct and ensure there is no reward for hatred and despicable conduct." The fractured group reached an out-of-court settlement in 2015. Malinin moved on as Tanya Tucker's drummer.
