Joseph, Better You Than Me

Album: (RED) Christmas EP (2007)
Charted: 88

  • This song features guest contributions from Elton John and Pet Shop Boys vocalist Neil Tennant. Released on December 16, 2008 as a download-only single, all proceeds from this cut were donated to the Product Red campaign, headed by Bono and Bobby Shriver.
  • The lyrics were penned by Brandon Flowers about Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus. Flowers, John and Tennant take turns in describing the difficulties that he experienced in raising the promised messiah, born by a virgin. The Killers frontman recalled to NME: "I remember being at church around that time and somebody bringing up Joseph, and I'd never really thought about him. He's a carpenter but there must be so much more to Joseph than that. This is kind of going a little more in-depth. Some of the troubles that he must've gone through. It's an underrated and overlooked one."
