Songfacts®:

  • "Kylie Said to Jason" was a 1989 KLF single record whose title and lyrics alluded to Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan. At the time the pair were starring in the Australian TV soap Neighbours, which was achieving phenomenal viewing figures in the UK. Designed for chart success, the song was intended to fund KLF's road movie and soundtrack album, both titled The White Room, but the single failed to enter the UK top 100. KLF's Bill Drummond recalled to Sounds:

"We spent £45,000 on the LP. 'Kylie Said To Jason' was going to be a hit and then we'd have another hit, leaving us with a successful album. Then 'Kylie' wasn't a hit and everything got confused. But we still had this burgeoning club credibility and 'Kylie Said To Jason' not being a hit kept that intact."
