Songfacts®:

  • "Prelude to Ecstasy" is the opening song and title track of The Last Dinner Party's debut album. Composed by keyboard player Aurora Nishevci, it acts likes an overture in a musical. "It has themes from all the songs on the record," explained vocalist Abigail Morris to Apple Music. "I don't believe in shuffle except for playlists and I always liked the idea of [an album] having a start, middle, and end, and there is in this record. It sets the scene."
  • The Last Dinner Party recorded Prelude to Ecstasy at The Church Studios in Crouch Hill, London, in January 2023 with producer James Ford (Arctic Monkeys, Florence + The Machine, Foals). "Ecstasy is a pendulum which swings between the extremes of human emotion," explained the band. "From the ecstasy of passion to the sublimity of pain, and it is this concept which binds our album together."
  • Prelude To Ecstasy debuted at #1 on the UK Albums chart. It earned 32,800 chart units in its first seven days, the biggest opening week for a chart-topping debut LP by a band since Years & Years sold 55,000 copies of their debut album, Communion, in its first week in 2015.
