Songfacts®:

  • Waitin' for the Night was The Runaways fourth album (including Live In Japan), and their first without original lead singer Cherie Currie. With the departure of Currie, Joan Jett took over lead vocals and replaced the lingerie-clad, jailbait look with a tough, rocker vibe. While their image was less sexual, The Runaways, who were each now about 18, were still pushing the boundaries with songs like this one, which their manager Kim Fowley described as "About the joys of... death, throwing up, herpes, banditry, bleeding in the streets." Fowley wrote the song with Joan Jett.
