Songfacts®:

  • "No Broke Boys" is a 2024 single by Tinashe released as part of her seventh studio album, Quantum Baby. Like many things in her world, the track straddles pop, R&B, and razor-sharp attitude.
  • The central theme of "No Broke Boys" is empowerment and self-worth, particularly in the context of romantic relationships. It's about boundaries and not wasting time on anyone who can't meet her at her level, emotionally, financially, or spiritually. The phrase "no broke boys" works on two levels: literally (no freeloaders, thank you) and metaphorically (no emotional cheapskates either). In short, if you're not bringing something to the table, don't expect a seat.
  • Tinashe penned "No Broke Boys" alongside Ricky Reed and Phoelix, who also handled production with Zack Sekoff. Reed and Sekoff also worked with Tinashe on her viral hit "Nasty."
  • The final chorus of "No Broke Boys" tips its hat to Janet Jackson's 1998 slow-burn classic "Go Deep," layering in crowd vocals sung by Tinashe, her best friend Alicia, and her cousin Nakisa.
  • The music video, directed by Aerin Moreno, goes full cinematic. Set on a high school football field, it pays homage to the 2000 cheerleader classic Bring It On. Two squads face off: one dressed in white (Tinashe's crew), the other wearing black uniforms.

The video also continues a storyline from previous visuals, ending with Tinashe's character being apprehended after a desert crime spree.
  • Tinashe debuted "No Broke Boys" live on the opening show of her Match My Freak: World Tour in Anahelm, California on October 14, 2024.
  • A high-energy remix of "No Broke Boys" by Colorado DJ Disco Lines transformed the track into a club-ready dance anthem, garnering massive popularity on TikTok. The remix maintains Tinashe's confident vocals while adding a pulsing, techno-inspired beat. Following the release of Disco Line's version on June 6, 2025, it cracked the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart the following week.

"Tinashe did an incredible job writing it," Disco Lines told Billboard. "You can feel that [group of girls] energy when you listen. Everyone's had an ex hit them back and you're like, 'Stop banging my line.' Everyone can relate - even me as a guy. The lyrics are so strong."
  • Disco Lines took Tinashe's sultry original and sent it straight to the dance floor, cranking up the BPM, adding a rush of bright synths, and infusing it with his signature feel-good bounce. The revamped track first blew up after he dropped it during his EDC Las Vegas 2025 set in May.

"I played it at EDC, and then I played the collab in San Diego, and every time, everyone jumped," Disco Lines told Billboard. "So I was like, 'Tinashe, check this s–t out.' Then a bunch of people kept using it on the internet, and it just gained momentum."

Tinashe was instantly on board. "Yeah, it popped off," she laughed. "I saw the initial edit at EDC, that little clip, and I was like, 'Well, this is f–king great.' I just wanted to build it out into something super impactful."

The two began working remotely, with Tinashe heading into the studio to re-record parts of her vocals to make the final cut, as she put it, "super crispy and super new and fresh." Once the remix started taking off online, the pair, both based in Los Angeles, finally linked up in person to shoot photo and video content. "That was when the final version really came together," Tinashe said.
  • Tinashe and Disco Lines performed "No Broke Boys" live together for the first time on August 3, 2025, at LIV Beach in Las Vegas.
