Songfacts®:

  • This is the second single by British rapper Tinie Tempah and the follow-up to his chart-topping debut release, "Pass Out."
  • Like "Pass Out," Tempah co-wrote the song with his producer Labyrinth and he debuted it on UK TV show Koko Pop on April 17, 2010.
  • The song received its radio debut on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 2 show on April 21, 2010. Tempah told Lowe: "After Pass Out came out, there was a little bit of gosh, yeah the second one, we gotta get it right. Ultimately Zane, as you can probably tell, the record is about having a lot of fun and just trying to push boundaries and make unconventional music that doesn't have to sound a certain way. I just had fun with it, to be honest."
He added: "I learnt the kind of effective, during all the performances, especially doing Pass Out. It's a tune that kind of really connects with those sounds."
  • Tempah's success is down to his trick of rapping over all genres of music. "You couldn't really tell the difference in the Top Ten charts – it was all pop/R&B. I saw that as an opportunity," he explained to The Independent. "So I got in the studio with my producer Labrinth and said: "Let's bring drum'n'bass into the charts and let's do some crazy stuff." Tempah continued: "'Frisky' has got loads of weird sounds in it. It stops halfway and then comes back in. I mix every genre of music – electro, ska, reggae, grime, drum'n'bass, and hip-hop and I've made it into one."
  • This won the Best Video gong at the 2010 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards.
