Songfacts®:

  • "The Scotts" is a collaboration between Travis Scott and Kid Cudi, who released it under the name The Scotts. The collective's moniker is derived from Kid Cudi's real name, Scott Mescudi, and Travis Scott's stage alias (his birth name is Jacques Berman Webster II).
  • This eponymous track introduces The Scotts to the world as an influential and powerful pair who do their own thing "outside" of mainstream hip hop.

    You lettin' The Scotts outside
    We runnin' the scouts
    Ain't no controllin' the gang
  • Travis Scott premiered the track during his virtual live show in the video game Fortnite Battle Royale on April 23, 2020. His 15-minute virtual Astronomical concert attracted 12.3 million players, breaking the record for the biggest audience for a Fortnite gig.
  • Frequent Cudi collaborator Dot Da Genius co-produced the bass-heavy beat along with Plain Pat and Take A Daytrip.
  • This is the fifth time Travis Scott and Kid Cudi have collaborated on disc. The previous four were Scott's "Through The Late Night," "Way Back" and "Stop Trying to Be God," and Cudi's "Baptized in Fire."
  • The song gave Kid Cudi the first Hot 100 #1 of his career. His previous chart high came in 2009 when "Day 'n' Nite" peaked at #3.

Travis Scott had landed two previous chart-topping singles, "Sicko Mode" in 2018 and "Highest In The Room" in 2019.
