Not since Bob Seger's "Turn The Page
" have we heard a more disconsolate song about life on the road, dispelling the myth that it's all glamor. The song was written by Triumph lead singer Rik Emmett
, who told Songfacts this song "changed my life in ways that had a profound effect on me."
Emmett certainly appreciated all that being a rock star had to offer, but he was more into the music than the hedonism. In 1988, Rik left the band to start a solo career. He later got into music journalism and taught songwriting at Humber College in Toronto.
