  • During this bluesy seven-minute lament, Zac Brown chronicles how his "angel" saved him from himself.

You pulled me from the fire
So I won't face the flames alone
    And gave this gypsy heart
The only home it's ever known
    And gave this gypsy heart
The only home it's ever known

Brown once lived a life led by ego. After he met the love of his life, he wanted to change his ways, and she tamed his wild spirit and pulled him out of darkness. "Sometimes it takes people a long time to get everything right," said Brown. "But with your stubborn pride, it's hard to admit that you messed up a little bit and that you need a change. I tell people that are having a hard time that it's never too late to get it right."
  • The ballad features Americana-leaning singer-songwriter Marcus King, who contributes guitar riffs and an extended solo at the end. "Watching him play on 'Stubborn Pride,' he did four takes and every one was brilliant," said Brown to Billboard. "I had to ask him afterwards, 'What does it feel like to just play like that, to be able to flow like you are just having a conversation with someone?' He said, 'It's an emotional place and I just wanted y'all to have a piece of me on here.'"
  • Brown co-wrote the song with his frequent collaborator, producer Ben Simonetti, along with Marcus King.

  • John Sparkman And Blacktop Herd from Nashvegas Baby!I believe Zac gave Marcus writing credits for what he does in what I call the 3rd verse, and just like Zac says, it’s like a conversation. In the Lead Guitar Verse, Marcus starts out like a conversation, and leads up to an elelectric guitar diatribe that has ups and downs of a verbalized conversation that is rather vocalized by Marcus Kings lead skills, and to extend the metaphor further, it soeaks to me. Bravo, it’s both amazing and my favorite song.
