  • You've seen life through distorted eyes
You know you had to learn
    The execution of your mind
    You really had to turn

The race is run the book is read
    The end begins to show
The truth is out, the lies are old
But you don't want to know

Nobody will ever let you know
When you ask the reasons why
They just tell you that you're on your own
Fill your head all full of lies

The people who have crippled you
You want to see them burn
The gates of life have closed on you
And now there's just no return

You're wishing that the hands of doom
    Could take your mind away
And you don't care if you don't see again
    The light of day

Nobody will ever let you know
When you ask the reasons why
They just tell you that you're on your own
Fill your head all full of lies
    You bastards

    Where can you run to
    What more can you do
    No more tomorrow
    Life is killing you

    Dreams turn to nightmares
    Heaven turns to hell
    Burned out confusion
    Nothing more to tell, yeah

    Everything around you
    What's it coming to
God knows as your dog knows
    Bog blast all of you

    Sabbath bloody Sabbath
    Nothing more to do
    Living just for dying
Dying just for you, yeah Writer/s: John Osbourne, Terence Butler, Tony Iommi, WT Ward

  • Why Do You Wanna Know My Name from Why Do You Wanna Know Where I LiveLuna, I think you’re right. Heavy metal isn’t satanic or religious, it’s just music that is there to enjoy regardless of the fact that you’re religious or atheist. This song is a good example of that
  • Cas from Usa“Those who’ve crippled you, you want to see them burn”
  • Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganThe front cover of the SBS album depicts a person on their death bed. The person has lived a bad life and demons and evil spirits are coming to take them to Hell. The back cover of the album also depicts a person on their death bed, only this person lived a good life, and friends and loved ones are at their side, mourning their loss, and angels are coming to take them to Heaven.

I find it interesting that some people are convinced that Black Sabbath are Satanists and every song by them is evil, and some people (much fewer, mostly on this site). are convinced that every song by them is religious or about the Bible. In reality, Sabbath are a group of great people that make great music and enjoy scaring people for shock value (much like horror movies).
  • Neale from MoeMy moderately religious mother walked in on me listening to this on the radio back in '74, right at the part where Ozzy was singing the title lyric "Sabbath bloody sabbath". This was too much for her though, and she almost had an aneurysm, scolding me over how this was "blasphemy" and was "the Devil's music" and that I "shouldn't be listening to this". Of course, being a rebellious 13 year old, I was hooked after that.
    Ahh, good times, R.I.P mum.
  • Danadoesdishes from Sun City Ca.Smoked my first joint in school with friends and listened to paranoid. Thank you for best band memories. Also I was at Cal jam in 1973 was there up front.
  • Douglas Miura from Sao Paulo, BrazilThis song is a well known rip off from brazillian singer Vanusa and her song called "What to do". Her album was released a few months before Sabbath's album
  • Airton from Someplace In This PlanetYou've seen life through distorted eyes (this verses explain everything - 2cor 4:4...In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not...)

The people who have crippled you (For men shall be lovers of their own selves, Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.)
You want to see them burn
The gates of life have closed on you (But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.)
And now there's just no return
You're wishing that the hands of doom

20And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. IS NOW!!!!
  • Cyberpope from Richmond, CanadaA 42m31s pleasure; thanks for linking to the full!
  • Tameron from Taft , CaThe people that have crippled you, you want see them burn!
  • Joe from Grants Pass, OrI'm sure I'm not the the only one that that tuned their guitars down to to learn this one !!
  • Roy from Dalton, Ga, GaThat's right Paul, in the book "Black Box"
Geezer B. said the song is about their
experiences as a band and people trying to
take advantage of them and rip them off left & right. The song and its title have nothing to with the song by U2.
I wish people would read the book and get
their facts straight before going onto these
comment areas putting down what they think is
the true meaning of the song. Don't these folks
know that Black Sabbath members know what their songs are about?
Their are some people who think they are
"know it all's". Give us a break guys and get
your facts straight. Read a book.

was standing 10 foot over bill ward
back when behind the stage seats wernt cool
    glad i was there
5$ and they played till 1 am
sadly that started the 11 pm show endings
  • Cyberpope from Richmond, CanadaSabbath is anglicised from Hebrew "shabbat" meaning 7th(ie SATURDAY)

True, the title was likely inspired by the Irish Sunday slaughter, but the lyrics don't seem relevant. . .
  • Robert from Atlanta, GaOzzy is the best!
  • Johnny from New York City, NyThe title does refer to Sunday Bloody Sunday...(Sabbath Bloody Sabbath)...Sabbath is a synonym of Lord's Day (meaning Sunday)...it does not say the song is about the Sunday Bloody Sunday massacre.
  • Jason from Denver, CoNot having anything to do with this song, I do like the song "looking for today",which comes from the same album. The guitar riff is quite cheerful for a Tony Iommi riff
  • Michael from Okla. City, OkBy far the best & most interesting Black Sabbath album. Michael, 4-18-08
  • Lester from New York City, NyThis is definitely Black Sabbath's most interesting album.
  • Bob from Perth, Wasabbath's most awesome song, and their best album too!
  • Paul from California, PaA very good song, on what is, perhaps Sabbath's best record. By the way, it does not refer to Sunday bloody sunday. That would be the U2 song of the same name. People, you have to learn how to use context. An even easier way to bring forth the meaning of a song is to read what the artists themselves have to say.
