(the alias of the 4seasons) reached #12 on the billboard charts the other 4seasons related songs were "Let's Hang On" by the 4seasons under their true name at #3 and "You"Re Gonna Hurt Yourself", a solo by lead singer frankie valli, #36--- thus 3 songs in the the billboard top 40 at the same time under 3 different names. This occured in the late 1965/early 1966 time period. Frankie Valli's solo hit "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" was not on the charts until 1967 and again there were also 2 other 4seasons related songs on the charts but under different names__the 4seasons song,"C'mon Marianne" and the Wonder Who?'s "Lonesome Road" thus the second time they accomplished having 3 songs on the charts under 3 different names.

• Richard Barone from New York, NyIt's such a nice song. But it should always be remembered that it came from Paul Clayton, who was Dylan's friend and the most-recorded young folksinger of the 1950s. Clayton played his song "Who's Gonna Buy You Ribbons?" to Dylan, who said, "I'm gonna use that." Clayton's song is also very beautiful, and he was very important in Dylan's evolution as a songwriter. • Brandt from Leesburg, Fl.I heard this song recently on radio station 102.7 from Lake-Sumter Landing in The Villages, FL.; it didn't sound like Bob Dylan singing it, though, and it was in a slightly lower key. I could have sworn it was Jim Croce who sang that version, because it sounded like it was the same tempo and same key as Croce's "I've Got a Name". However, as far as I know, Jim Croce never covered that song, but if he had it would have sounded really good; he was a master at telling stories in a song, and it's too bad the world lost him way too soon.

Admittedly he has a weaker voice than others but it never bothers me because his overall feel and guitar playing are sublime.   At the time the song was at #27 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; two weeks earlier on December 19th, 1965 it peaked at #12 {See next post below}...
  On the same 'Sullivan' show the quartet also performed "Let's Hang On"; it was at #11 at the time.

  Under the name of the Wonder Who they had three other songs make the Top 100 chart; a covered version of "On the Good Ship Lollipop*" {reached #87 in 1966}, the record's B-side, "You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You", stayed on the chart for 1 week, peaking at #96, and in 1967 "Lonesome Road" peaked at #89...
  * The song was originally performed by Shirley Temple in the 1934 movie "Bright Eyes."

They were both wild young things--as was I, once (though some might say 22 is old enough to know better than to fool around with a girl who's barely 16). They did indeed kind of waste my "precious time" and leave me on the "dark side of the road". The "child" may also be Dylan's: the baby Suze aborted, which she and Dylan fought bitterly over (cf. "Ballad in Plain D", and how "the plaster did pound").

BUT, Dylan ripped his song from Paul Claytons "Who´s Goin´To Buy Your Ribbons When I´m Gone" from 1960... search for the lyrics of this song and the tune and you´l see the similarity. Every great artist borrows from the legacy from others, that´s the great thing of music and Rock´n´Roll. Still I believe that Dylans song is the greatest.
