  • I saw him dancing there by the record machine,
I knew he must have been about seventeen.
The beat was going strong playing my favourite song,
I could tell it wouldn't be long till he was with me.
Yeah, with me and I could tell
It wouldn't be long till he was with me,
    Yeah, with me.
    Singin',

    Chorus:
I love rock 'n' roll so put another dime
    In the jukebox baby.
I love rock 'n' roll so come and
Take the time and dance with me.

He smiled, so I got up and asked for his name,
"But that don't matter," he said
    "Cos it's all the same."
I said, "Can I take you home
    Where we can play alone?"
And next we were moving on,
And he was with me yeah, with me.
And we were moving on and singin' that,
Same old song yeah, with me.
    Singin',

    Chorus

I love rock 'n' roll yeah,
Cos it soothes my soul yeah.
    I love rock 'n' roll,
    Yeah, yeah, yeah.

I said, "Can I take you home
    Where we can play alone?"
And next we were moving on,
And he was with me yeah, with me.
And we were moving on and singin' that,
Same old song yeah, with me.
    Singin'

    Chorus x5

  • Jr from Los Angeles, CaSo much better than Joan's cover. Britney's vocals fit the vibe much better, and Britney's instrumental (produced by the legendary Rodney Jerkins) is much better as well.
  • Desi from Mind Your BusinessThese comments did not pass the vibe check, and people are actually saying that she should be killed over this cover. Y'all need to chill and not listen to the song if you hate her cover so much, she had fun with it and that's it. She didn't make fun of Joan or anything, she's the only unproblematic singer out there and she has nothing but respect for her idols and for the people who ALLOWED her to cover their songs
  • Mike from Matawan, NjShe is a fembot poser. She should stick to bubble gum/oversexed pop that she seems so adept at.
  • Theresa from Murfreesboro, TnI prefer Joan Jett's version - Brit lacks musical chops.
  • Junita from Nowhereville, BcBritney's IQ is 98.
I love Brit's songs and voice, but her lifestyle... no.
    Britney's IQ is 98.
    That's sad... mine is like a 100 something. And I'm a teenager... she's an adult... that's sad.
  • Bob from Hallanedale, FlYup-another great song rip-off by this mindless bimbo. To compare Britney Spears to Joan Jett is like comparing horse dung (BS) to a great race horse (JJ). I am glad some of you people are not completely brain damaged and recognize that Britney the Bimbo should stay away from R&R altogether. What will be next, her trying to do Motown? Kelly, from Burbank, is right, this dweeb was created for a record company and that is all! Just like her fake boobs and shallow personality, she will fade away and disintegrate--she will never be even close to a rebel like JJ! Please Britney, go away!
  • Dave from Cardiff, Wales"Britney made it her own way, and with her own style. Her single was bigger in England than Joan Jett's was! A fact. Joan Jett made #3 in the UK charts in 1982, and Britney went one higher at #2, in 2003." - Actually, Stephen from London, that's not true - a): There is no such thing as an artist making a song they did not write their own; and, b): Joan Jett's version is the bigger version in the UK, it peaked at #4. Britney's version peaked at #13 in the UK, not #2. "I'm Not A Girl" was the song from Crossroads that hit #2 in the UK
  • Echo from Normalville, MaBritney Spears-Rock & Roll: rather disturbing oxymoron
  • Ferris from Ohio, OhOh god, this is without a doubt, the worst cover I have ever heard!
  • Ashlee from Vermilion, Canadaok this song was NOT written by Spears anyone who says it is, is automaticly wrong.. and yes it was made by the Arrows not Spears. and to that Maria girl that said why pick on spears.. its because WHY oh WHY would a small Pop Singer go and take over and make fun of joan with her popish verison of I love rock and roll. Spears should be Killed just for that!
  • Sharon from Aucklandthis song isn't that good. britney should definatly stick 2 pop.
  • Stefanie from Rock Hill, ScObviously, Britney isn't that intellegent but the fact that she said "Because I love Pat Benitar" as a sarcastic answer is funny. Maybe she's not completely dumb.
  • Nathan from Defiance, OhBritney wouldn't know rock and roll if it smacked her in the face. She is the exact opposite of Rock and Roll.
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesStephen from London - just to clarify, Britney's version of this song didn't go one higher than Joan Jett's version, which made No.3 - Brit's version actually peaked ten places lower at No.13
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesBritney covering this record? What irony!
  • Casie from Denver, CoI use to like Britney till the whole slutty chick came out but she took this song for Crossroads, the movie ws cute but defenetly not in my top favs. She shouldnt of made the video because its like so unoriginal although it came out pretty good I think.
  • Cindy from Sydney, United StatesBrit should stick to pop music, itz her thing.
I'm not feeling the rock scene with her in it.
  • Chelsea from Freehold, Njit's bad when you're listening to the radio and the joan jett version of the song comes on and your 18 year old cousin looks are you and goes 'this isnt britney spears, did someone do a cover?'

i died a little on the inside that day.
  • Alex from Gatineau, CanadaLet us recap. We insist on being disrespectful to Britney Spears at every turn despite her ability to produce consistent and popular albums every time, yet we say nothing about the trype created by one Ciara Harris, who cannot sing let alone recognize a melody of more than one note?

    Strange world.
  • Erik from Monterrey, MexicoDefinetly not Britney's best song, though its not that bad. Britney's an amazing artist, and can sing any type of music she wants
  • Raechel from London, EnglandThis was a great song. But Britney ruined it. Taking old classics and having modern American/Canadian bands ruin it is the worst thing you can do. Britney covering this song is like Simple Plan covering Happy Together by The Turtles. Britney Spears is one of the most annoying people to walk the face of this earth and have her name on the record charts. Long live REAL Rock n'Roll!
  • Alex from Nunya, CaOnce again, a great song get's butchered by the capitalists. Damn capitalists, wev'e had enough of you and your...money.
  • Michael from Melbourne, AustraliaWait a minute, Britney Spears loves rock'n rock? I thought she hated which would explaneth all that corporate, MTV pop crap she's released that has practically DESTROYED a)rock b) music and c) the intelligence of millions
  • Kelly from Burbank, CaI think I'm the only one who feels this...but to me Britney isn't a rock n' roll singer. She's a pop artist who was created by the record company. Nothing more. She doesn't come off as a rebel chick like Joan Jett did...but I guess that's what people these days prefer. Whoo...
  • Chester from Lincolnshire, EnglandI think the video shows Britney's attitude towards the song. In the video she basically plays a rock chick in extreme fashion (writhing around in leathers, headbanging, performing with a live band, riding a Harley Davidson and slamming her guitar into a speaker until it explodes!).

She has fun playing the rock chick and does it with a light-hearted smile on her face. The song is an awesome classic and an excellent choice for Britney, whose lifestyle is becoming more and more rock 'n' roll by the day! Her snarling, raw vocals suit this song perfectly and she should occasionally rock it up more in the future....
  • Stephen from London, EnglandBritney is great on this tune. It made the film "Crossroads" tolerable. The highlight of her movie. She can sing whatever she likes. I think she made it her own way, and with her own style. Her single was bigger in England than Joan Jett's was ! A fact.
Joan Jett made #3 in the UK charts in 1982, and Britney went one higher at #2, in 2003.
Hey ! I love the song by anyone. I'd even like a William Hung version !
  • Spando from Perth, AustraliaBritany should definatley just stay away from the 'r' word, she doesnt know what it means.
  • Jackie from Monument, Cohmm.
britney spears should not be singing this song because she really doesn't love rock and roll.
  • Britney from Calabasas, CaIm not pickin on Britney but this NOT a Britney song. Britney's music is not rock 'n roll, she can try but its not gonna happen. She should've jus left it in her movie and not put in on her 3rd album. She could have done a better job if she actually had some vocal ability. I guess sex will live on and music will be pegged way low in Britneyland.
  • Maria from Atlanta, GaI love Joan Jett as well, and maybe it is not the best cover choice for Brtiney, HOWEVER, can any of you tell me that you have not sang the song yourself?? Whether in the car, shower or cleaning house, you have in some way performed a cover of a million songs. Why pick on Britney? Sh just had fun with it.
  • Monica from New Orleans, LaListing this as a Britney Spears song is WRONG. Please change it. Particularly because she didn't know who made it famous, but mostly because Joan Jett does the definitive version.
  • Nora from Richfield, MnIt is a disgrace that some pop star like Britney gets to butcher this song.
  • Rachel from Barooga, AustraliaThis song is totally awesome! It's my favorite song. I LUV IT!
