  • Joe from EnglandOn the next season premiere, this will be the introduction of YOU
  • Rob from ItalyIt seems that Damien Rice himself has given different versions of the story in his concerts. But that is exactly what a poet is meant to be. It's not the story that's important: it's the feeling he's talking about. If you "can't take your mind off" from falling in love with a real woman, a movie character, or a painting of a Renaissance Madonna, the feeling may be the same.

Furthermore, in real poetry, the author gives more than one meaning to the words (that's what is meant by poetry, otherwise it's not poetry, it's journalism). A good example is Leonardo da Londrina's comment which highlights the «double meaning»: "The pupil in denial" is himself, who does not want to accept the end of the relationship, but it is also the pupil of his eye who does not accept the order to take his eyes off her (connecting this to the main verse of the song).

But Damien Rice is not only a poet but also a musician: quotations and double meanings are not only in the lyrics but also in the melodic lines. Has anyone noticed that not only the lyrics of the last line, but also the melodic lines of the last two lines of each verse are exactly the same as Frank Valli's "Can't take my eyes off you"?
  • Adrian Stunt from Enniskillen Enormously poignant and beautiful song. A long, thin sliver of glass that gently pierces your heart. ( In my mind, something of old, rural Ireland and the glass-blower. Any interpretation of call-centres, though colourful and imaginative, completely jar against the ambience of the song). As in many great songs, such as Mazzy Star's 'Fade Into You', the ambiguous lyrics enhance the experience and allow you to colour your feelings in a way personal to you.
A truly great piece of music and sensitively sung by Damien Rice.
  • Cat Lira from Bay AreaThe yearning for a love that can’t be possible
  • Leonardo from Londrina Pr Brazilthe colder water - the real facts

The narrator tell us who is the person (the players) of this love story:

The Blower's daughter - she - a girl free spirit - who just lived an summers love
    And
The pupil in denial - he - who doesn't want to accept the end of relationship
double meaning: yours eyes pupil does not accept the order to take eyes off her
  • Casey from Moses Lake, WaOk sorry but the song isnt about the daughter of a clarinet teacher its about the daughter of a glass blower. In England Scotland and Ireland a glass blower is reffered to as a blower.
