  • It's late in the evening; she's wondering what clothes to wear.
She'll put on her make-up and brushes her long blonde hair.
And then she asks me, "Do I look all right?"
And I say, "Yes, you look wonderful tonight."

We go to a party and everyone turns to see
This beautiful lady that's walking around with me.
And then she asks me, "Do you feel all right?"
And I say, "Yes, I feel wonderful tonight."

I feel wonderful because I see
The love light in your eyes.

And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don't realize how much I love you.
It's time to go home now and I've got an aching head,
So I give her the car keys and she helps me to bed.

And then I tell her, as I turn out the light,
I say, "My darling, you were wonderful tonight.
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight."

  • John from BondiBeautiful song about a little fella in a wheelchair. One of my favourites
  • Pete Mcducklet from The MoonJohn from Bingley. The Nino and the Ebb Tides version of 'Wonderful Tonight' was a recording made in the 1990's following a reformation of the band..it is very possible that none of the original members were involved. The song was on a N&ET album released in 1995 and the song is credited to Eric Clapton and Michael Kamen as Kamen arranged the song in an a capella stylee.
  • Ginny L. Ross from Sumner Wash,i just Love the song you look wonderful tonight!!
  • Gina Rains Bearfighter from Montana https://youtu.be/qx3EQQQ6yjM
    I love this version better!
  • John from BingleyEric Clapton was not the first person to sing wonderful tonight nor did he write it it was first recorded by nino and the ebb tides in 1957.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn July 15th 1978, Eric Clapton appeared in concert* at the Blackbushe Airport in Yateley, England...
At the time his "Wonderful Tonight" was on its last day at #16 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart {See third post below}...
And on July 8th it also peaked at #16 {for 1 week} on the Canadian Toronto CHUM Hits chart...
    * Bob Dylan was the concert's headliner, and the estimated 200,000 fans would be the largest audience of his career.
  • Joe from AtlantaNevermind. I believe I was wrong.
  • Joe from AtlantaActually "Wonderful Tonight" plays in Happy Gilmore after they get grandma's house back, but yes "Tuesday's gone" plays in the beginning and end of the movie.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn May 7th 1978, "Wonderful Tonight" by Eric Clapton entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #82; nine weeks later on July 9nd, 1978 it would peak at #16 {for 1 week} and spent 17 weeks on the Top 100...
Between 1970 and 1998 he had, as a solo artist, twenty-five Top 100 records; six made the Top 10 with one reaching #1, "I Shot the Sheriff" for one week in 1974...
He just missed having a second #1 record when "Tears in Heaven" peaked at #2 {for 4 weeks} in 1992; the 4 weeks it was at #2 the #1 record for those 4 weeks was " Save the Best for Last" by Vanessa Williams...
Eric Patrick Clapton celebrated his 70th birthday less than two months ago on March 30th {2015}.
  • Brent from Denair, CaAn absolute classic... to write a song in that short of time. Slowhand is an incredible talent. This song is a staple at every wedding reception I have ever been to over the years.
  • Hugh from Wick, United KingdomRegardless of the meaning or whom the song was dedicated to it is still a classic.
  • Bennie from Parañaque City, PhilippinesAwesome!I don't get tired listening to this wonderful love song....
  • Squigle from Columbus, OhMy parents danced to this at their wedding. i never had a liking for it, bit I grew to respect it. A nice, slow song.
  • Rahul from Chennai, Indiacute song...very well written...
  • Ryan from Parker, CoBell Bottom Blues was also inspiration from Patti Boyd so many great songs in the Clapton catalog this ranks very high among them
  • Chloe from St. Louis, Mowow. pattie had a thing for guitar players, huh? AND "SOMETHING" WAS NOT WRITTEN FOR HER.
  • Gary from Watford, United KingdomA romantic song dedicated to your wife after a good evening out, i still prefer the original studio version taken off 'slowhand'
  • Bonnie from Paris, KyMy husband and I met at a night club in Asheboro North Carolina, I asked him to dance and this was the song the band started playing. We have been together since that night! Together for 14 years and married for 12 years... Love it!
  • Stormy from Kokomo, InThis song ALWAYS reminds me of my great love Diane "Di" Wilson Peterson! We dated for 3 years and spent alot of time in Carmel, Indiana dancing and drinking at a place called "Rico's". Too bad that we never made it past 3 years. She's married and, hopefully, still alive somewhere! I always give a "tribute" to "Di" whenever I hear this song. She was, truly, "one in a million"!
  • Maricel from Iloilo City, Philippinesi really like the song wonderful tonight,it remain me my past boyfriend...he alway's sang this song to me!
  • Amanda from Aberdeenshire, United Kingdomits got to be the best song ever! my boyfriend sang it to me when i was 14 all always rember it xx
  • Andy from Rockaway , NyOne of my wife's favorite Clapton/Love songs, and after 30 years K you look wonderful evrynight!!
  • David from Reno, Nvum yeah it definitely isnt played at the end of happy gilmore that is for sure tuesday's gone by lynyrd skynyrd. and george harrison himself once said that he DIDN'T write something for pattie, he wrote it for some girl in his head who didnt exist. and does anyone know why (on my itunes) this song gives a production credit to bob marley? could be a mistake?
  • Seema from Mumbai, IndiaWonderful Tonight is a wonderful song... Very romantic. If you have a love do play it for her! She will be flattered that you are thinking of her
  • Robert from Brisbane, AustraliaI thought Tuesday's Gone was the song played at the end of Happy Gilmore?
  • Lisa from Antioch, CaNo one has mentioned Tupelo Honey as the other contender for best love song ever....but this is a close 2nd.
  • John from Manila, OtherBest rock love song...ever.
  • Andy from Burnley, EnglandWhat is all the dalk about disabled people? I know this song like the back of my hand. "This beautiful lady, that's walking around with me." Then he drinks too much "So I give her the car keys, & she helps me to bed." What sort of disability is he or she supposed to have?
  • Jeeves from Dc, Dcgod peoples hes being sarcastic cause shes taking so long so its like "do i look all right" "yes you look wonderful tonight" then again "do i look all right" "yes you look wonderful tonight"
  • Liz from Perth, AustraliaThese lyrics are the most beautiful of any lyrics I have ever heard and any woman would be thrilled to have such words written about her - and I had the privilege of hearing Eric perform it live tonight!
  • Morgan from Urbana, OhI believe that the lines "I feel wonderful because I see the love light in your eyes,
And the wonder of it all is that you just dont realize how much I love you" are the best written words with the most impact of any song I've ever heard.
  • Will from York, EnglandOn Rciky Gervais afternoon show on London radio station XFM, this song is widely debated becasue producer Karl pilkington believes this song is about a man in a wheelchair.
  • Roberto from Las Cruces, NmOh and Something by the Beatles.
  • Roberto from Las Cruces, NmThis song and Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers are two of the most romantic songs that I know of.
  • Johnny from Los Angeles, CaJohn from Millersville gets an AA (Awesome analogy) point.
  • Dirk from Nashville, TnAnd if you ever had the fortune to see Patti up close, you would appreciate why Eric would happily wait while she changed clothes! She was breathtakingly beautiful. She was a teenage model. She was barely 18 when she started dating George Harrison (secretly). She was 20 when she married George. And she was still fairly young by the time drugs and promiscuity ruined the marriage and she took up with Eric. (By then, Eric had had an affair with both her and her sister. Patti, in turn, had had her own affairs, incuding a tumble with John Lennon.) But it's hard to even imagine Eric Clapton having the focus to notice a beautiful young model changing clothes for a night out. He was drug-addled and obssessive. By the time Patti dumped him, he had sired two children with two women other than her! The lyric should read "Darling, you look wonderful--I think."
  • Colby from Fort Collins, CoActually Greg is right it is both the beggining and end is "tuesdays gone" but they both sound similar even I thought it was "Wonderful Tonight" until I heard "Tuesdays Gone"
  • Paige from San Diego, CaWhat a pretty song. I love Eric Clapton!
  • John from Millersville, MdI've always thought it to be pretty cool that Eirc and George could stay such good friends after the whole Patti ordeal. To me, Patti is a kind of modern Helen of Troy. Gorgeous song, of course.
  • Sean from Private Info :), Nelol why do people always tell me that "Wonderful Tonight" plays in the begining of happy gilmore? It's not that. Its Lynyrd Skynyrds "Tuesday's Gone" :) Listen to it. It's DEFINATLY that song. Go Skynyrd and Go Clapton!
  • Stefanie Magura from Rock Hill, ScHey Prettttttty funnny Daryl! Anyway, great love song. Wonnder why they play it at weddings so much.
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesOddly, despite being his best-known solo offering in the UK since it first materialised on the album "SlowHand" in 1977, and despite massive success in the YardBirds, Cream and Derek & The Dominoes over the years, 'Wonderful Tonight" was not released as a single in the UK until 1993, and surprisingly stalled at a lowly No.30, thereby failing to repeat the UK chart success of earlier hits "Lay Down Sally", "Tears In Heaven" and "Bad Love". The US boyband Damage later made No.3 in the UK with an inferior cover version in 1997
  • Charlie from Thomaston, Cti love the new commercial with the guy and his wife and he keeps playing that part over and over. I bet alot people think thats "selling out" but i thinks its great
  • Justin from Columbus, Msgreat song to play for your girlfriend..wink wink
  • Jude from Los Angeles, Caoh yeah it's a great song - wonderful tonight it was played on the episode of friends when Chandler and Monica got engaged in the ending.
  • Jude from Los Angeles, Caum.. I hate this say this for the freakin' billionth time SOMETHING wasn't written for PATTY!!!! Thank you for your time.
  • Brandon from Bronson, MiActually Katie from Australia "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd is the OPENING and ENDING song on the movie "Happy Gilmore". Believe it or not!
  • Ariel from Woodbridge, Ctthis just might be the best love song ever
  • Katie from Goulburn, AustraliaGreg from Abbeville, SC, "Tuesday's Gone" was by Lynyrd Skynyrd is the OPENING song on the movie "Happy Gilmore", not the ending.
  • Daryl from Stoke, EnglandAce song, i always thought it was about a disabled person and his wife who helps him around everywhere. Well...i spose this interpretation is a better one hee hee
  • Deana from Indianapolis, InIs a favorite as a staple love song, but Eric Clapton wrote it tongue in cheek while waiting on Patti Boyd Harrison to get ready for a tribute to Buddy Holly they were to attend
  • Greg from Abbeville, ScThis song was not at the end of the movie happy gilmore. It is "tuesday's gone" by the famous sothern rock group lynyrd skynyrd.
  • Jack from Raleigh, NcThe best version is on the SNL25 live performances album....Astounding!
