  • So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion
(To rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby

(Rock the boat), don't tip the boat over
(Rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby
    (Rock the boat)

Ever since our voyage of love began
Your touch has thrilled me like the rush of the wind
And your arms have held me safe from a rolling sea
There's always been a quiet place to harbor you and me

Our love is like a ship on the ocean
We've been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion
So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion

(To rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby
(Rock the boat), don't tip the boat over
(Rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby
    (Rock the boat)

Up to now we sailed through every storm
And I've always had your tender lips to keep me warm
Oh, I need to have the strength that flows from you
Don't let me drift away my dear, when love can see me through
(Our love is like a ship on the ocean)

We've been sailing with a cargo full of love and devotion
So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion
So I'd like to know where, you got the notion
Said I'd like to know where, you got the notion
(To rock the boat), don't rock the boat baby
(Rock the boat), don't tip the boat over
(Rock the boat), don't rock the boat, baby
(Rock the boat), don't tip the boat over

    (Rock the boat) ooh-ooh
(Rock the boat) rock on with you, baby
(Rock the boat) rock on with you, baby
(Rock the boat) rock on with you, baby
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)
    (Rock the boat)

  • Hector Lopez from Camden, Nj The song ROCK THE BOAT ". . . barely made it into the Billboard Hot 100, peaking @ #96"? I would like to see the evidence on that point! Music industry billionaires are masters of persuasion. They make perfume smell like garbage!
  • David from Honolulu, HiThe popularity of "Rock The Boat" was contingent on its playing in disco clubs primarily in New York City. The song was initially released in February of 1974 & barely made it into the Billboard Hot 100, peaking @ #96. After its continuous play in the clubs, the song began to take off & was re-released in May of 1974, when it re-rentered the Hot 100. It landed in the #1 spot on July 6th, 1974 for one week. The Hues Corporation would never again duplicate the single's success, charting just three more times in the Hot 100 before the group disbanded in 1977.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn December 14th 1974, the Hues Corp. performed "Rock the Boat” on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
It had entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart on May 19th, 1974 at position #83; and 6 weeks later on June 30th, 1974 it peaked at 1 {for 1 week} and spent 18 weeks on the Top 100...
It reached #2* on Billboard's R&B Singles chart and #5 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club chart...
On the same 'Bandstand' show the group performed "Rockin' Soul"; at the time it was at #51 on the Top 100, one month earlier on November 10th, 1974 it peaked at #18 {for 2 weeks}...
They had three other Top 100 records; "Freedom for the Stallion" {#63 in 1973}, "Love Corporation" {#62 in 1975}, and "I Caught Your Act" {#92 in 1977}...
    * Was #2 for two weeks on the R&B Singles chart, and the #1 record for both those weeks was "My Thang" by James Brown.
  • 70s Flashback from Staten Island, NyMaybe it was the 'first' disco hit on the radio. But it will always remind me of the summer I graduated from High School - 1974.
  • Camille from Toronto, OhMany of us will remember this song as being very popular during the summer of '74 and being played on the car radio while we took "driver's training", the driving part! This is just a terrific, upbeat song with cleverly written words, a catchy refrain, and calming, yes, calming vocals that capture that boat ride thru the storms that they're singing about. Who doesn't want to be "sailing with a cargo full of love and deVOtion"???
  • Kaila from Ottawa, OnThis song was also featured in "The Sinbad Show".
  • Rhonda from Martinsville, VaMY FIRST HUSBAND GARY, PASSED AWAY ON SUNDAY OCT. 7TH, 2007. WE GOT MARRIED IN 1973 AND THIS SONG CAME OUT IN 74. I LOVED IT AND IT HAS ALWAYS REMINDED ME OF OUR TIMES TOGETHER. I FEEL HIS SPIRIT AROUND ME, SO I TOLD HIM I WOULD HEAR THIS SONG ON THE CAR RADIO TODAY AND WOULD KNOW HE WAS NEAR ME. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT PLAYED THIS MORNIING AFTER I TOOK MY DAUGHTER TO WORK. SO I KNOW GARY WAS RIDING IN THE CAR WITH ME. OUR LOVE WAS FULL OF DEVOTION. BUT I ROCKED THE BOAT I GUESS.
  • Darrell from EugeneThe name was changed to "Hues" from "Hughes" to avoid being sued by Howard Hughes. I have read many books about Howard Hughes, and he would become furious at The Hues Corporation for being composed entirely of African-Americans as well as for trademark infringement.
  • Sara R Beaty from Kings Mtn., NcTHIS SONG ENLIGHTENED ME T0 AN APPARANT BLINDNES OF PEOPLES SELF INFLATED IMPORTANCE: I WAS 15 YEARS OLD WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT...IT MAY HAVE A DISCO REPUTATION ...AND SOME HOW I MISSED THAT AND ATTACHED MY RATICAL SEARCH FOR HARMONY ALONG WITH A NEW FOUND QUEST FOR WORLD PEACE "TO EVERY WORD" AND IT OPENED MY EYES TO A HARMONEOUS SOCIAL AND POLITICAL STATEMENTS....THIS WAS (AND STILL IS !) A SIMPLE YET PROFOUND PHILISOPHICAL MESSAGE TO THOSE SENSITIVE TO SELF-EXAMINATION,AND A RALLYING WILLINGNESS THAT IS MOTIVATED BY HOPE AND LIVES THROUGH COURAGE AND HONSTY...DISCO MADE ITS MARK ..INDEED IT DID
  • Robin from Birmingham, AlBefore "Rock The Boat," the Hues Corporation also charted with a ballad, "Freedom For The Stallion."
  • A.j. from Vancouver, CanadaIt's also featured in Carlito's Way.
  • Graham from Lake Worth, FlThis song was also played in a Pepsi One Commercial several years back.
