A Song For You

  • I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs, I've made some bad rhyme
I've acted out my life in stages
    With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singin' this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darling can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darling can't you please see through me
'Cause we're alone now and I'm singin' my song to you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth, withholdin' nothin'
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better so if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody 'cause my love's in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for my life, 'cause you're a friend of mine
And when my life is over, remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singin' my song for you

But I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I've loved you for my life, yes, you're a friend of mine
And when my life is over, remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singin' my song for you, yes
We were alone and I was singin' this song for you, baby
We were alone and I was singin' my song
Singin' this song for you Writer/s: Leon Russell

  • Janet from Ia - IowaGot to love love Leon Russell
  • Shelly from Nj - New JerseyAhhh yes most beautiful of songs I thought to play it for my latest and greatest darling
I saw Leon, joe cocker and the Mad Dogs and Englishmen at the Fillmore East way back then circa 1970 or so.
  • Catherine G from MichiganI adore this song! So beautiful!
  • Tammy K from PaThis song touches people at their very core, even though he wrote it for a woman that he loved, it could speak to so many people in so many ways. The lyrics resonate with me in a different way, as a Singer & Performer. When he says " I love you in a place where there's no space or time, I love you for my life, you are a friend of mine " To me, I would be singing that to many people that have touched my life in one way or another.
It is a Love Song, & we all have many loves, if we are lucky. Brilliant, can't wait to sing this song.
  • Robert from Johns Creek, GaI'm honored to be the first commentator. :) If there is healing in music, this song has no equal. I agree with Rita Coolidge. It is the most beautiful song. I was fortunate to have seen Leon Russel live at the Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, circa 1973.
