  • Some boys kiss me
    Some boys hug me
    I think they're ok
If they don't give me proper credit
    I just walk away

They can beg and they can plead
But they can't see the light (that's right)
'Cause the boy with the cold hard cash
    Is always mister right

'Cause we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

    Some boys romance
    Some boys slow dance
    That's all right with me
If they can't raise my interest then I
    Have to let them be

Some boys try and some boys lie but
I don't let them play (no way)
Only boys that save their pennies
    Make my rainy day

'Cause we're living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

Living in a material world (material)
    Living in a material world
Living in a material world (material)
    Living in a material world

Boys may come and boys may go
And that's all right you see
    Experience has made me rich
    And now they're after me

'Cause everybody's living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl
    Living in a material world
And I am a material girl
You know that we are living in a material world
And I am a material girl

    A material, a material, a material, a material world

Living in a material world (material)
    Living in a material world
Living in a material world (material)
    Living in a material world

Living in a material world (material)

  • Cinemaniax7Regarding the above fact about Keith Carradine's involvement in the music video, this was hardly his "biggest role." Not only has Carradine's TV and film career spanned forty years, but he also wrote and performed "I'm Easy" for the Robert Altman film "Nashville." The film was nominated for Best Picture, and Carradine won the Academy Award for Best Song.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyThirty five years ago on this day in 1985 {March 17th} Madonna's "Material Girl" peaked at #2 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Top 100* chart, the two records that kept it out of the top spot were "Can't Fight This Feeling" by REO Speedwagon and "One More Night" by Phil Collins...
"Material Girl" was Madonna's first of six of her records to peak at #2, her five other #2 records were "Causing A Commotion" {1987}, "Express Yourself" {1989}, "Cherish" {1989}. "I'll Remember" {1994}, and "Fozen" {1998}...

  • John from Brisbane, United StatesI was sure this song was at number one for a few weeks. I always thought it was Madonnas second number oner after Like a Virgin!Material Girl and Like a Virgin are Madonnas best and after that came only inferior songs.
  • Aya from NswI heard Sesame Street's cereal girl before I heard Material Girl. Great parody for a great song :)
  • Mike from Santa Barbara, CaThis song quickly became Madonna's signature song and she personally earned the name "The Material Girl." Actually, Madonna herself dislikes that, but it stuck just the same.
  • Matthew from Milford, MaThis song is playable in Elite Beat Agents. It's a DESERTED ISLAND?!?
  • Jailene from K-town, WaHaha cereal girl. Anyway...the other day I forced my mom to drive down the street blasting this song. It only worked out that way cuz I plugged the iPod in and turned it to that song. Lawl. It was funny cuz we both ended up lip syncing with extreme expressions on our faces.
  • Amanda from Little Rock, ArThis song rocks so hard. Not everyone can pull off a Monroe impersonation, but Madonna did it and did it well.
  • Aj from Cleveland, GaMadonna looks like a female player in the video.
  • Connor from Woodbridge, VaI grew up to cereal girl.........
