  • The heart is abloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
    There's no room
No space to rent in this town
    You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
    The traffic is stuck
    And you're not moving anywhere
You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand in return for grace

    It's a beautiful day
    Sky falls, you feel like
    It's a beautiful day
    Don't let it get away

    You're on the road
    But you've got no destination
    You're in the mud
In the maze of her imagination
    You love this town
Even if that doesn't ring true
    You've been all over
And it's been all over you

    It's a beautiful day
    Don't let it get away
    It's a beautiful day
    Ooh, ooh, ooh

    Touch me
Take me to that other place
    Teach me
    I know I'm not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light and
See the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood, all the colors came out

    It was a beautiful day
    Don't let it get away
    Beautiful day

    Touch me
Take me to that other place
    Reach me
    I know I'm not a hopeless case

What you don't have, you don't need it now
What you don't know, you can feel it somehow
What you don't have, you don't need it now
    Don't need it now
Was a beautiful day Writer/s: Adam Clayton, Dave Evans, Larry Mullen, Paul David Hewson

  • Cynthia Lark from Ogden, UtahL.S., hope you see this. What he does is adds in a lyric from Bowie’s “Starman.” It works beautifully and is my favorite version of Beautiful Day.
  • L.s. from LouisianaIn the BBC video on YouTube I just watched there is an added verse about meeting a man in the sky. I can’t find this added lyric. Anyone have a copy or noticed this before? I’d like to see a written version.
  • P.a from Co. Spgs., CoAbsolutely, one of my favorite U2 songs. The power of life and happiness are the ultimate "highs" I swear. How Edge soars in the stratosphere with his licks is the perfect counterpart to Bono's deep deep expressions is really epic. Live, love and life... I agree U2.
  • Chris from Winnipeg Mb, Mbur partly right Wesley.... Triple H was out of action for 8 or 9 months, and they used this song to promote his upcoming return to action.... i believe it was in 01 or 02
  • Katie from Aquidneck, Rigetting lyrics from this song tattooed on myself in a few weeks...cannot wait. absolutely my favorite song. a message that everyone, no matter their circumstance, needs to remember. hence why it will be on my ribs forever :)
  • Janey from Shenandoah, IaBeautiful, It's not a beautiful day in my state or town, the lyric "See the bird with the leaf and her mouth, after the flood all the colors came out" reminds me of Noah's Ark, The big flood. Love this song.
  • Ben from Wellington, New ZealandAbsolutely fantastic
  • Shawn from Frostburg, MdWhat an uplifting and inspiring song. Instant U2 Classic.
  • AnonymousThis song is also used on Bandits,a cool movie, that give me notice too - don't throw the golds in our hands,to catch another to advant- khanif,pekalongan-indonesia
  • Dana from Coventry, RiOne of the greatest songs of all time. period.
  • Rob from Los Angeles, CaIt's transcendental. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "Give me health and a day!"
  • Francois from Bloemfontein, South AfricaIsn't life all about a Beautiful Day!!! A new start, a new beginning. That's what Father God gave all of us in Jesus Christ. A new start : A Beautiful day, don't let it get away like the lyrics said! Jesus Christ is Alive....... Halleluja. Thxs Bono you also expierienced just that! I hear the message right through your music!!
  • Dora from Doha, QatarThis song is absolutely amazing! It keeps me optimistic!!!!! Go U2!!!!!!
  • Jose from Guadalajara, MexicoThis is my favorite song in the whole world. During the Vertigo Tour in Mexico (February 2006), U2 changed part of the lyrics:

See the world in red and green
Mexico city in a waking dream
    From Guadalajara to Monterrey
    Cabo San Lucas, Acapulco Bay
A new world is in motion
From the Atlantic to the Pacific ocean
See Cancun with a leaf in her mouth...
After the flood all the colours came out...

I was in the Azteca Stadium and that was a very nice surprise.
  • Summer from Nashville, TnThis makes me think as an optimist. It makes me "wake up" and helps me to stop worrying about the little things in life. I look around and see beauty everywhere.
  • Simonj from Melbourne, AustraliaVery interesting interview with Springsteen in Time magazine from 1975, where he disparages writing about "a beautiful day" http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,913583-8,00.html. I wonder if Bono read this article?
  • Emma from San Deigo, CaU2 and greenday got together for the Super bowl after Hurricane Katrina and U2 sand Beautiful Day along with greenday singing The Saints are Coming.
  • Emma from San Deigo, Cai love this song it is so beautiful and i 've heard nothing like it U2 is amazing and Bono seems like a wonderful ,caring person! This song always makes me happy and be thankful for what i have!
    peace
  • Dani from Fuquay Varina, NcThis song really makes me think about how life is beautiful, and even when it's been a really bad day, there's still oppurtunities and hope.
  • Matthew from Milford, MaMaterialism can be shot full of holes, tossed in a ditch, and left to rot for all I care. Actually, that would be nice... *goes off to murder tycoons*
  • A.c. from Auckland, New Zealandthis song is about coming out of a period of chaos and depression, and realizing the beauty all around in nature. the crucial line is the one which references the story of Noah. The tie-in with Noah is symbolic - the flood is the period of depression but "see the bird with the leaf in her mouth, after the flood all the colors came out." The song captures that moment, like the rainbow after the flood, when one sees the world in a totally different light. Amazing song!
  • Danleichty from Rochester, MnI like this song alot. It is a very happy song. I feel good every time I hear it.
  • Wesley from Oklahoma City, OkI believe they used this song in the WWE when they did lil segments on different wrestlers' lives each week on Raw and Smackdown. One of the wrestlers was Triple H
  • Amy from Fond Du Lac, WiI'm not a huge fan of U2, but this song always makes me stop and think. I always seem to hear it on the radio when I'm driving, and no matter what kind of day it is... rainy, snowy, gloomy or sunny, it makes me reflect on how it really is a beautiful day. Even when things aren't what we want them to be, each day is special. I can be a pretty cynical person at times, but this song brings out the optimist in me.
  • Joe from Grove City, OhI have lost several aunts and uncles over the past 5 years, as well as a cousin recently. Each time, the funeral was held on a bright sunny day. Standing in the cemetary as we prepare to depart, to say goodbye to that person's physical presence for the last time, I have been reminded of this song, how 'it's a beautiful day, don't let it get away.' Each time I hear it, also, I am reminded of these special people and how they impacted me, and how I should really take advantage of each day, as it is a beautiful day.
  • Sean from Lake Charles, LaOne of U2's greastest ever!
  • Kelly from Middle Village, NyMy friend & her husband played this song at their wedding (???) I love U2 but this is NOT a wedding song.
  • Joel from Nottawa, CanadaI really like this song too, Sanctus Real does a really good cover of this, a little heavier, and faster, you should check it out ;)
  • Rick from Humboldt, IaMaterialism sucks!!! Rock on U2!
  • Johnny from Los Angeles, CaGo Victor!
  • Grace from Fairfax Station, VaU2 is the most talented bunch of guys in the history of music. Their lyrics and music are always just so amazing. God gave these dudes a gift, and that's why they're my favorite band. This song is no exception. My favorite parts are when he's describing things ("See the world in green and blue") and near the end ("What you don't have, you don't need it now").
  • Declan from Liverpool, EnglandMy favourite song ever

Try climbin a mountain with this on repeat :)
  • Ger from Camross, IrelandI was a U2 gig in Dublin rcently and this song absouloutley rocked
  • Gary from Bangor, OtherThis is actually one of my fav songs the other being queen-hammer to fall, the link being that both songs are actualy about the end of the world not seeing the beauty of life it about the beauty after all life is gone.
  • Victor from Vienna, VaThis song has convinced me to get rid of my material things, and I am starting little by little to enjoy life more and more.
  • Wesley from Midwest City, OkI forgot the year, but WWE used this song for different wrestlers who talked about their lives and struggles
  • Aziz Valika from Chicago, IlDuring the Grammy's, Bono mentioned in a very brief interview that the lines starting with, "See the world in green and blue" were all descriptions of images that were visible from outer space. "See China right in front of you / See the canyons broken by cloud" etc. Hence, signifying - feeling down, so step back and see the bigger picture? Something like that....
  • Billy from Pittsburgh, PaThose particular lyrics, at least, are a reference to the Flood...I'm not sure the whole song is, though.
  • Zach from Horn Lake, MsI think that this song is a referance to Noah and the Great Flood. The lyrics - "See the bird with the leaf in her mouth, after the flood all the colors came out". It was definately a Beautiful Day
  • Raja from Austin, TxInspired by a friend of Bono who survived cancer and realized the beauty of life and the need to enjoy every minute of it.
  • Ashley from St. Paul, MnLove it. Absolutely love it!
