  • Big Thief frontwoman Adrianne Lenker was raised in a religious cult. She was later encouraged by her songwriter father to make music, learning how to go into a writing trance by watching his example.
  • Lenker released her first solo album, Stages of the Sun, in 2006 at the age of 13. However, she set aside her dreams of pop stardom after receiving a scholarship to Boston's Berklee College of Music.
  • She formed Big Thief after meeting guitarist Buck Meek the first day she moved to New York.
  • Lemker has a black belt in taekwondo. She told Mojo magazine she did taekwondo five times a week for eight years, and "once considered pursuing it as a career."
