Songfacts®:

  • Running to 3 minutes 24 seconds and released on the Polar label in 1970 as the B-side of "Lycka," it has the distinction of being the first song ever recorded with the vocals of all four ABBA members. It was though recorded not as ABBA but as Björn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson, and features a lead male vocal.
  • In English this Swedish title renders "Hello, Old Man."
  • A folk number about an old soldier, this song spent 15 weeks at the top of the Svensktoppen chart, Sweden's equivalent of the BBC.
  • "Hej, Gamle Man!" was also recorded as "Tyck Om Varann" (which does not translate well in English) and in German as "Hey, Musikant" ie "Hey, Musician." >>
