Songfacts®:

  • Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi says this "might be the first love song we ever recorded." An uncharacteristically mellow tune, it finds Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince Of Darkness himself, singing quietly and reflectively as he ponders his lonely place in the world. Ozzy didn't write the lyric though - bass player Geezer Butler wrote the band's lyrics at this time.
  • Having been inspired by his very brief gig with Jethro Tull, Tony Iommi played flute on this track.
  • You wouldn't know it from this song, but the Master Of Reality album, Sabbath's third, is a metal landmark, with rockers like "After Forever" and "Sweet Leaf." Sabbath pretty much defined the metal genre but they didn't let it box them in. They recorded in songs in lots of styles.

  • Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganDamn, this song is so beautiful and sad. I love it when Sabbath does ballads. When I was not too much younger (I'm only 16), I would put headphones on and listen to songs like this and "Changes" and just chill and think about life. My short, short life.

By the way, about "Changes", why isn't it on this site? It's way more renowned than this song (even though this song is just as good). I know a lot of facts about that song, I can help you guys with contributing them if that's okay, but I don't know how to post songs/facts on this site.
