Songfacts®:

  • "Finish This Drink" is a rowdy country-rock stomper built around one of those time-honored, utterly American delusions: "I'll leave right after this one." TJ Osborne makes the promise to his lover that he'll be home shortly, but several hours and many rounds later, he's still very much not on his way.
  • The theme draws directly from the Osborne brothers' childhood memories. Their father, Big John, would always say he'd head home as soon as he finished his drink but almost never did. This, it turns out, is a hereditary trait.
  • TJ Osborne had the idea for the song after a late night out with Jaren Johnston of The Cadillac Three. "A couple drinks turned into getting back home at 4 a.m., and then I thought, well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," he explained.

A few days later, while TJ was eating breakfast at a Waffle House, he started singing the chorus to himself and quickly recorded the idea so he wouldn't forget it.

TJ brought the idea to frequent Kelsea Ballerini collaborator Alysa Vanderheym, and the two of them hammered it into a full song.
  • The Osborne brothers produced the song themselves and laid it down in Pine Box (guitarist John Osborne's studio in East Nashville).
  • Brothers Osbourne debuted the song during their Spring 2025 tour, playing it at major festivals like Stagecoach in California and the March Madness Music Festival in Texas. They released it as a single on April 4, 2025.
