Songfacts®:

  • "Social Apocalypse" is the lead single and title track from Bullet For My Valentine's eighth album. The song captures a world falling apart as division, hostility, and digital-age tribalism erase empathy and any remaining sense of common ground.
  • Frontman Matt Tuck rages against "the end of the world as we know it" where "all hope has faded." He approaches the theme as a parent, looking at the world his children are growing up in and weighing how drastically things have shifted since his own youth.

"Everything in life is changing at such a rapid pace, and it is hard to find a great deal of positivity when you look at events in the world," Tuck explained upon the single's release. "People are being pitted against each other. The world is full of conflict instead of unity. As a father, I look at what the world is like for younger people, and how completely different it is now."
  • Longtime collaborator Carl Bown produced the track. Bown first teamed up with the Welsh metal outfit on their 2015 Venom album and has also produced records for Sleep Token, While She Sleeps, and Malevolence. Tuck credits Bown's relentless drive in the studio for keeping the band on their toes.

"Carl doesn't let you settle," Tuck said. "He is always ready to speak up, push and challenge you to be the best version of you."
  • Director Chris Wade directed, shot, and edited the accompanying music video through his UK production house Dogbrain Videos. Based in Dartford, Kent, Wade has helmed videos for Pendulum, Wargasm, and Boston Manor. The visual's dark, frantic atmosphere mirrors the song's central warning about a society slowly coming unspooled.
