Songfacts®:

  • Chelsea Odosamamwen Ode, better known by her stage name Ceechynaa, is a drill rapper from South London who has made it her mission to rattle the music industry's cage. Born to Nigerian parents, Ceechynaa blends the grit of her upbringing with a brazenly confrontational artistry, and "Peggy" is a prime example. Dropped independently on December 5, 2024, let's just say it's a far cry from the traditional holiday cheer that December might otherwise suggest.
  • The song's title alone - a nod to a sexual act commonly referred to as "pegging" - is a clue that this track is not for the faint-hearted. "Peggy" has sexually explicit lyrics with themes of gender dynamics, empowerment, and the subversion of patriarchal norms. The opening line, "I'm peggin' that man at the back of the bus," makes it clear Ceechynaa is here to flip the script on traditional notions of power and control.
  • The track draws inspiration from the style and attitude of Three 6 Mafia. Ceechynaa tapped into the group's legacy of horrorcore and Memphis rap to craft her lyrical approach. The line "I'm gonna fill up his nose with dust" nods to a lyric from Three 6 Mafia's "Half On A Sack."
  • Extendo Beats and Rupa Beats produced "Peggy." Their beat steps away from Ceechynaa's familiar UK drill sound in favor of something darker and more unsettling.

Extendo Beats (real name Spencer Anderson) is the lead singer of the alternative band Modern Hearts. His other credits include "Down" by G-Eazy and "Vibrate" by Tyga.
  • The track samples Yanko's 2023 track "Flexin," which was also produced by Extendo Beats and Rupa Beats.
  • "Peggy" quickly went viral after its release, propelled by its raunchy lyrics. It soundtracked a flood of TikTok videos where parents react to their children playing the track for them. The outrageous reaction clips and lip-sync videos catapulted the song into online infamy.
