Songfacts®:

  • Back in 1991, Alan Menken co-wrote the songs for Disney's animated Beauty & the Beast movie. The title track sung by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson went on to win an Oscar and a Grammy. Menken also co-wrote some brand-new songs for the 2017 live-action remake. One of them, "How Does a Moment Last Forever," which expands on Belle's relationship with her father and what happened to her mother, was recorded by Celine Dion.
  • Menken told ABC Radio that he believes Dion wanted to record the new song because it reminded her of her relationship with her late husband, Rene.

"When she sang 'Beauty and the Beast,' she was really young, and I met her and Rene, and I saw firsthand their relationship," the composer explained. "The song she's singing is so much about the memories that we have of the people we love. And so I think it had a special meaning to Celine, because of the recent passing of Rene. So that was really meaningful and beautiful."
  • This plays over the end credits of the film, along with two other newly recorded songs: Josh Groban's "Evermore" and a new version of "Beauty and the Beast" by Ariana Grande and John Legend.
