Songfacts®:

  • Glenn Frey wrote "You Are Not Alone" for his teenage daughter, Taylor, who at the time was experiencing difficulties. Born in 1991, she was the first of his three children; Frey didn't become a father until long after he was a rock star. Frey also sings lead on the track.
  • Another song on the Long Road Out Of Eden album, "It's Your World Now," was also influenced by Frey's family. The album is a two-disc set with 20 songs; enough to fit contributions from all four band members. Frey's songs tended to be more personal while Don Henley's leaned political. Having four distinct writers and vocalists gave the album a balance that fans appreciated. It ended up selling 7 million copies in America and went to #1, setting a mark for longest time between chart-topping albums (their previous studio album, The Long Run, went to #1 28 years earlier).
