Songfacts®:

  • This angry song starts by describing a beautiful day before someone comes along and spoils the view. The lyric is an old one that was re-discovered by Collins' partner Grace.
  • Asked by Uncut magazine what the song is about, Collins replied: "The best songs are universal, so it's not specific. When we moved here from London, Grace was packing up the old house and she found 30 to 40 notebooks of lyrics and persuaded me to look through them. I've never gone back over old ideas before now, but that was one of them."
  • The song features some sax playing by Collins' long-term collaborator, multi-instrumentalist Sean Read.
