This is the opening track from English alternative Rock band Elbow's debut album, Asleep In The Back.
Frontman Guy Garvey explained to Drowned In Sound that this song, "reflected our feelings of wanting to leave our home town Bury and go and see the world. In order to follow our career in the band none of us went to university, and so this song is about wanting to get out of there." He added; "Musically it owes a lot to DJ Shadow and trip hop; Massive Attack, Portishead etc, we're huge fans of that."
"St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion)" was not written for the movie, but for Rick Hanson, a wheelchair athlete whose 1985 "Man In Motion" tour logged 24,856 miles on his wheelchair in 34 countries while raising $26 million for spinal cord research.
