A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me"

Album: From Under The Cork Tree (2005)
Charted: 38 65

  • This song is about a guy who is obsessed with a girl to the point where he sleeps on her porch. She doesn't return his affections, even telling him, "Why don't you just drop dead." >>

  • Sixteen Candles is a 1984 John Hughes movie starring Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. Like this song, it contains themes of teenage drama and unrequited love. The band grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, where all of Hughes' films take place.
  • In addition to the movie, the title is a play on the Elvis song "A Little Less Conversation." "Touch Me" is a song by both Samantha Fox and "The Doors."
  • The video shows the band battling a group of vampires. Making appearances in the video:

William Beckett and Michael Carden of The Academy Is...

Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith of Panic At The Disco

Schleprok of Gym Class Heroes (all above as vampires)

WarChief, Fall Out Boy's security manager, as a priest

Dirty, Fall Out Boy's special effects/lighting technician, as Stump's information gatherer. >>
    Suggestion credit:
Donovan Berry - El Dorado, AR
  • Fall Out Boy performed this when they guest starred on One Tree Hill in the 2006 episode "Just Watch The Fireworks."
  • From Under The Cork Tree is the band's second studio album and their first release by a major label, Island Records. They relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles to work on the album with producer Neal Avron, who helmed albums from Everclear, New Found Glory, and Yellowcard. Avron wasn't initially impressed with Fall Out Boy and turned down the project until he heard demos of soon-to-be-smashes "Sugar We're Going Down" and "Dance, Dance." Avron returned for the band's next two albums, Infinity On High and Folie à Deux.

  • Azure from Caddo Mills, TxI'd just like to say, while some of y'all may say what you want about how much y'all hate or love Fall Out Boy, I would just like to leave a friendly reminder that everyone had their own tastes in music. My favorite band IS Fall Out Boy, but I do like other bands that are different. My favorite genre of music is Country, and my favorite song is in neither my favorite band nor my favorite genre category. My favorite song is by 1D, end off I don't like them that much. See what I mean? Everyone is different and no two people are the same.

P.S. As to why Patrick "...still sounds like he's in puberty" in this video, he had just turned 21. So duh he still sounded like that, he was still kinda coming out of that stage (I don't exactly know how to explain it, but I'm sure y'all know mean). I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but I don't mean any disrespect by it... "Thank you for consideration *bows then leaves*"
  • Brooklynn from Las Vegas, NvActually, "A Little Less Than 16 Candles A Little More (Touch Me)" is about Pete and his girlfriend of the time growing apart while he was touring for "Take This To Your Grave" when he gets back to Chicago they have reunion sex, but then he thinks she's cheating on him (which she could've or could not have been, it's unclear) so he starts smelling her sheets. When she asks him what he's doing he apologies because you can't say something like "I was simply admiring the scent of the Egyptian cotton" or "I was just blowing my nose". She gets quite upset, wraps herself in a bed sheet, crying, she asks "Why don't you trust me? What did I do?". He grabs her phone of the night table and throws it at the wall near her head. It explodes and she starts picking up the pieces. She keeps muttering "Why" under her breath. Pete walk up to her, grabs her face in his hands and whispers "Why? Why don't you call your boyfriend and ask why". She then shouts "Drop dead! Drop dead! Drop dead, you motherf--ker!", hence the chorus saying "Why don't you just drop dead" (I got my information from Pete's (their bassist and main lyricist) book Grey)
  • Snow from ..., NyI don't think this song is about obsession. I think it's about how a boy messes up a relationship somehow, and tries to apologize but the girl won't accept his apology.
  • Jeremiah Westbrook from Lo Angeles, Cai believe this song is about a boy who is obsesed with a gil who doesnt want him. Therefore the term:why dont you just drop dead comes in.The boy that likes her is always messing up thats why he says "Iconfess i messed up dropping im sorrys like your still around" hes also saying hes always late trrying to get with her
  • Dayna from Milwaukee, Wias to the comment that pink floyed and led zeppelin's songs have deeper meanings, i think its a matter of perspective. i mean, a lot of songs from the era of those two bands are about pot and getting high, not that bands of this era don't do that. and songs from this generation on the surface are about emos and how they handle their problems. fall out boy is honestly one of my favorite bands, pete's lyrics are so deep but i just think saying one band's songs are better than others is a bit ridiculous because as everyone has been saying it has to do with your own perspective.
  • Jack from London, United KingdomI think it's about a guy and a girl who are together, and he's older than her and is waiting for her to turn 16 so they can have sex. So he's like 'A little less 16 candles' - Stop blowing out candles on your cake like a good girl celebrating her birthday. 'a little more touch me' - Come on, you're 16 now, lets do it
  • Taylor from G-ville, OhI think that its about this guy whos girlfriend gave up on him after he messed up so many time and now hes desprate to get her back but shes done with him going so far as to tell him to "drop dead"
  • Jon from Mishawaka, Inleslie from toronto, FOB has some of the LEAST profound songs ever. you want profound music? try pink floyd and led zeppelin, not this stuff. dont get me wrong im a fan of fall out boy. they just dont have much deep meaning to their songs.
  • Clb from A Place, VaI think this song is genius. Its really catchy, and the video is AWESOME :D
  • Sam from Sudbury, OnI personally think this song is about a guy who's in a relations ship he wasn't really trying hard to keep strong, and now that its over he wants to make it work but he might not get a chance again.
  • Nady from Adelaide, Australiammm I'm so glad Joe mentioned Jim Morrison. Seriously people The Doors put this sh*t to shame....TO ABSOLUTE SHAME!!! I know this and I'm 17 for frigs sake. You think Pete's HOT? pff he's stuck inside a 14 year old emo kid's body, he's ridiculous, the d*ckhead wears eyeliner for f*cks sake. And I'm not gonna say that all music today is sh*t...there is Muse...NOW MATT BELLAMY IS HOT!!! no eyeliner for that man thats for sure. And Jim Morrison...need I say more??
  • Z from Somewhere Over The Rainbow, WaI don't really like Fall Out Boy, but some of my freinds are nuts over them. I just enjoy pointing out the fact that Petey is EVERYWHERE. They don't have the best lyrics in the world, and their music can be kind of overly pop. I listen to Nirvana, Shcoolyard Heroes, Death Cab for Cutie, Pennywise, etc. Please do not swear at each other even if you don't like their opinion on something. (Therapy is working, if you were wondering.)~~Ta~~
  • Lauren from Chicago, IlAnd bravo Hannah of Chicago, IL.
    Very well said indeed.
  • Lauren from Chicago, IlDear Shannon from Bakersfield, CA,
Did you just seriously call NOFX real music?
And did you just compare Fall Out Boy to the Backstreet Boys?
    For shame...
  • Melissa from Lorton, VaBeing 14 I don't actually like Fall Out Boy. I might listen to them every once in a while, but I'm too busy rockin' out to Van Halen, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Queen, etc.
  • Hannah from Chicago, IlEveryone thinks Fall Out Boy is amazing because believe it or not, the have SAVED LIVES.
  • Chris from Laval, CanadaIf FOB insist on playing those instruments together, they will forever be compared to every other band who attempts to make quality music with their instruments.
If you understood rock, you'd understand why they're shunned in the world of rock, and why they're such a waste of time and our money.
  • Leslie from Toronto, Canada
You want to know why people like FOB? I'll explain it. People like FOB because if you can understand the lyrics and the videos, you will realise that they are amazing. Obviously you can't seem to grasp the concept of the songs. You 'haters' should not go around saying that this music is terrible. Just because it's not your style of music does not mean that it's not good. And you know what? I'd rather listen to Patrick sing, Joe[Trohman] play guitar, Andy play the drums, and Pete play bass then listen to your 'legends' any day. You can tell me that I have 'no ear for rock & roll', but I really don't care, since I don't listen to rock & roll anyway. FOB is softcore, not rock & roll.
  • Sheeberson from Wrightsville Beach, NcMatthew's right Joe even though I dont personally like Fall Out Boy I'm not gonna go and post that opinion four f*cking times.
  • Jenna from Nova Scotia, CanadaUmmm you know how "Touch Me" is in quotes? Well it goes with the video 'cause hes a vampire so he cant feel anything.Oh and"Kiss Her Kiss Her" obviously goes with the vampire theme=)
  • Matthew from Calgaryhey joe... how many times do you have to write FOB sucks, huh? we got it the first time, ok? god, come on. if you hate them so much, then look up some other band. if you come here just to talk about how they suck, then you only need ONE message. stop coming back!!!!!!!!!
  • Jess from Knoxville, TnErm. I get the song, I get the lyrics, but it's one of those things that I can't put into words.

I don't understand why people say Fall Out Boy sucks. Pete's lyrics, Patrick's voice...it's all amazing. Patrick has the most amazing voice I have ever heard. And with "Infinity On High" out, it has given me the opportunity to hear just how soulful his voice can really be. Amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Pete's lyrics, I understand them all. Some I may not be able to explain because I simply can not put it into words. But I understand his lyrics nonetheless. Patrick's too. =D

Those of you who say FOB sucks, well, that's your opinion. You are entitled to your own opinion as we FOB fans are entitled to ours. We think FOB rocks, you think they suck.

But they are the most amazing band I've heard. Aside from The Beatles. =D
  • Jessica from Manila, OtherAll of these song facts are plain wrong. Sixteen candles is from the movie by molly ringwald and there is in fact a "touch me" song by samantha fox. According to an interview with Pete Wentz in the making of this song's music video, it's like a make-out song. He also said, there's molly ringwald and there's samantha fox. There's this girl you wanna bring home and marry and a girl you wanna turn the lights off with. Whoever thinks fall out boy isn't great, get a life because you suck big time and you don't know how to appreciate good music!
  • Ashley from Ft. Lauderdale, Fli think joe from bellingham needs to get a life, if you hate fob then DON'T LISTEN TO THEM, everyone has their own taste, and i think fob is awesome. they take the time and write all their own music and lyrics and they write and perform what they like, not what they need to write to fit into a certain genre
  • Joe from Bellingham, WaPatrick of KS. you need to get a grip. you have to realize that FOB is another generic, cookie cutter band, that is no different than the dozens of new bands to come out of MTV everyday. its not enough for a band to rely on studio magic to be considered excellent. Correct me if i'm wrong, but you don't listen to much classic rock do you? if you did (and not just ACDC and the Beatles) then you would see that the legendery bass work of John Entwistle, John Paul Jones, and many others put the FOB bassist to shame. Again, I don't know if you listen to much classic rock, (I'm assuming you don't) but if FOB has a good guitarist, then just watch a video of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Pete Townshend, Frank Zappa, those are all truly stunning guitarist that make FOB look like even bigger sacks of sh*t, then they already are. Regarding their drummer, I'm not sure what "Catching a beat awesome" means but if you put him up on stage with the late Keith Moon, or Gene Krupa, or Neil Peart, he would be miserably put to shame. Finally, FOB's singer, he still sounds like he's in puberty. like the squeaky voiced teen on The Simpsons. Jim Morrison, the god of lyrics and vocals. He would surly die of a heart attack if he saw what pathetic, mindless, bottom-of-the-barrel crap is being compared to him today. I'm also not sure why you didn't mention the names of FOB's guitarist or drummer? is it because they're both another identical mainstreem musician, with as much talent as last weeks new MTV band?
  • Patrick from Hutchinson, Ksjoe your a dumb@** you cant tell talent for $h** patrick sings like a pro o wait he is one pete wentz plays the best bass theyre drummers can catch a beat awesome and the guitarist is one of the best. i bet you cant do any of that $**t so shut your critizizing mouth. and theyre not rock an roll idiot theyr punk/emo so go get your facts straight and stop being so tone deaf and if you have something to say go ahead and sat it ill be here listening and repying ive got all the time in the world b****. FOB rules
  • Matt from Beach Park, Ilok i would like to say that this vid. is ok and the song is good too, but the people that listen to the old stuff im there too. This is not the same as the police or even red hot chili peppers but i still listen to them. Why because I like them, if you don't like the band thats fine but stop critizing me about my music. and im 15.

p.s.what makes this band good is the lyrics, the instruments, and the singers
  • Joe from Bellingham, WaYah, thanks for not answering my question. why does everyone think this band is good? what does everyone like about them? The band can't sing, play guitar, bass, or drum, so why is everyone going crazy for them? They spend millions on a two minute video to promote a song that's identical to all their others. that pisses me off. if they are good, they wouldn't need videos to make their music famous. FOB's music says "look at me" not "listen to me" this is why I hate them. Those pathetic no-talent panzies are recoginzed for something they're not, they don't compare to bands that I've mentioned.
  • Chandler from Tuscon, AzAnd I think Fall Out Boy is the best song in my book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Chandler from Tuscon, AzJust Beacuse there is pple think fall out boy is the best band ever doesnt mean u can pick on them No one said there are better than John Lennon (I dont know how to spell his name swry) WE all have our different taste!!! I mean I dont like Beyonce' but that doesnt mean i go comment her songs and say mean stuff about her! And we have our phases with songs just let us be!!!!
  • Sophie from Dewit, NyOkay, first of all. Those who insult other people for listening to certain music really need to get a life, and also stop trying to fit music into categories, because it's only slightly annoying.
  • Joe from Bellingham, Waokay, someone please explain to me why FOB is so great. I swear, none of you here know what good music is, except the people here that are bagging on FOB. Don't tell me any sh*t about how they make good songs and good lyrics, because thats not true. any song that i think of from the music i like is 10 paces ahead of the most meaningful FOB song you can think of. I really mean that. what makes their bassist so much better than John Entwistle? What makes their drummer so much better than Keith Moon, their guitarist better than Frank Zappa, their vocalist better than John Lennon? HUh? WHAT!? if you even try to answer these questions, then you are pathetic. you don't know your music past 2004 and have no ear for what true rock & roll is.

P.S. I guess you can try yo tell me what makes the FOB members better than the guys i picked out, but if you don't know about the legends i'm talking about, then don't even try.
  • Christina from Peabody, Mai love how people are saying how much this band/song sucks but they are sill spending their time actually looking up this band/song. coolness.
  • Laura from Chicago, Iljoe from bellingham: well actually, every fall out boy song is amazing. the lyrics are quite good on most every song, and almost all of them have a nice, catchy beat. also, "fircken" is not an engish word, nor do i belive it is a word of any other language. maybe you were searching for, freakin'? or, perhaps, f***ing? hm. some people need to learn how to spell.....
  • Chris from Oshawa, CanadaAh, attempting to force your musical tastes on other people. Well, you're only fourteen, you'll learn. It's the Ramones, by the way.
  • Shannon from Bakersfield , CaI'm a girl and I HATE fall out boy.
People think their rock?HA!These guys play some serious sh!t alright.Try to compare Fall out boy to backstreet boys or NSYNC or click five.Do you see any difference in the musical lyrics?Ha!Diddint think so.Every little girl on here grow up and listen to REAL music.Like:
The romones, the police, new york dolls,KoRn,L7,Green Day,NOFX, or the Red hot chili peppers.
And no don't watch the video on YOUTUBE.Just close yer eyes and listen to the music.
    I'm 14.This is Bullcrap.
  • Graeme from Carluke, Scotlandwow... why do people not like Fallout boy? They Rock!
  • Kimberleigh from Hoston, Txcorrection joe from WA there isn't a fall out boy song that isn't amazing FALL OUT BOY ROCKS!!!!!
  • Dave from Cardiff, WalesSamantha Fox did release a song called "Touch Me (I Want Your Body)" in 1986
  • Dan from @ The Shore Of, NjFall Out Boy should abstain from the classics........And by the way,'Touch Me' is a doors song not a samantha fox song
  • Emma from Dorset, Vtthe video is effin hilarious. i luv it. and the song is amazing. catchy melody, dramatic lyrics, and of course...FALL OUT BOY IS THE BEST!
  • Sai from Ontario, CanadaThis song confuses me, but it's catchy. oO;
  • Joe from Bellingham, WaThere is no such thing as an amazing fall out boy song. they fircken suck and you all know it.
  • Cody from Lititz, Pai think fall out boy needs to get there own titles killing two amazing songs like that...
  • Taylor from Ste. Gen, MoIn this video, Pete Wentz portrays a vampire to represent his "black moods". He even jumps off of a cliff to get away from the band.
  • Mark from Yorkjohnny...how the hell are they crap? like seriously they made an awesome album and that clearly makes them "not crap" you idiot. you dont like them simply because youre narrow minded and regurgitate the same crap that dribbles from the mouths of your media bred peers. get your own view and get a life. see music for what it is, not what your told.
  • Johnny from Rockland, MaThey are crap, really.
  • Sara from Austin, Txdo the videos EVER have to do with the song?
but hey, they all still rock, right?
FOB owns every beat of my heart <3
  • Tabitha from Brooklyn Park, MdI think it's about a boy that has become obsessed about his ex girlfriend. [he's "the boy with too many chances]. And he wants her back, but she's done with him, telling him to "just drop dead". And all he can do is try to get her back, thinking up extreme ways, like giving her complete control of the relationship [you can make all the moves, you can aim all the spotlights].
  • Jim from Clarmore, OkThe video has nothing to do with the song.
