Songfacts®:

  • Foo Fighters released "Today's Song" on July 2, 2025, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of their self-titled debut album. The track was their first new music since But Here We Are in 2023, and their first release following the departure of drummer Josh Freese.
  • "Today's Song" isn't just about today - it's about all the days that stacked up before it, the joyful, the brutal, the mundane, the seismic. It's about the unity and perseverance that powered Foo Fighters through lineup changes, grief, fatherhood, heartbreak, awards, and some truly dangerous stage diving (Grohl broke his leg in 2015 when he fell off the stage during a Foo Fighters concert in Gothenburg, Sweden, after attempting a stage dive).

If "Everlong" was the passionate confession and "My Hero" was the admiration anthem, "Today's Song" is about the days you get through because of the people next to you.
  • The song also serves as a tribute to former members of the band, including Josh Freese, William Goldsmith, Franz Stahl and the late Taylor Hawkins.

"Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak," said Grohl. "Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat. We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone."
  • Foo Fighters wrote and produced "Today's Song," with additional production by Oliver Roman. Oliver Roman has been a longtime in-house engineer at Studio 606, the Foo Fighters' recording studio, and has collaborated with the band on various projects over the years.
  • Dave Grohl's daughter Harper designed the single's cover art.
