  • "Just Stand There" is a collaboration between Fred again and Bridie Monds-Watson, better known as SOAK, a singer-songwriter hailing from Londonderry, Ireland. SOAK is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns. In this track, they deliver spoken-word vocals about the heady mix of joy and terror that comes with love. You know, that swirling sensation where you're over the moon but also feel like your legs are about to give way.
  • Fred again teamed up with Italian duo Parisi and Los Angeles-based producer Tobias Wincorn to shape the sound. What they came up is a somber and mellow soundscape with high-pitched synths and sparkling, pulsating textures that blend melancholy with a sense of wonder.
  • "Just Stand There" began its life under a different title, "I'm Alive," a spoken-word collaboration between SOAK, fellow Derry artist Gemma Doherty, and videographer Ellius Grace. It was an introspective little number that likely would've stayed in SOAK's back catalog had Fred Again not stumbled upon it. The vividness of the lyrics struck him - so much so that he decided to rework the piece and reached out to SOAK.
  • Fred gushed to BBC News NI about the words SOAK had written, calling them some of the most vivid he'd ever come across. "[They] put into words something that I didn't know I'd always wanted to hear put into words like this," he said. "The feeling of being totally alone with someone who you feel totally still with - watching everything else be totally not. To me the song is about this small, intimate, very still moment."

    SOAK, meanwhile, had one of those "Is this a prank?" moments when Fred texted them. After all, they'd all but forgotten about the original track and were more than a little shocked to hear that Fred had been a fan of their work for years.
