Songfacts®:

  • "Harley Quinn" is a collaboration between Fuerza Regida and the American electronic music producer Marshmello. The song takes Fuerza Regida into unexpected territories, infusing EDM elements into música mexicana.
  • Fuerza Regida's frontman Jesus Ortiz Paz sings about a woman in a club who is confident, desirable, and unapologetically herself. He compares her to comic character Harley Quinn, the Joker's frequent partner in crime and romantic interest.
  • Jesús Ortíz Paz and Marshmello wrote the song with Jesús Rodríguez Jr., Jonathan Caro, Miguel Armenta, Moises López, and Osbaldo Sánchez. Paz, Marshmello and Armenta produced the track with Ángel Tumbado and Munk. All, bar Marshmello, regularly contribute to Fuerza Regida's material.
  • "Harley Quinn" is the 15th track on Fuerza Regida's Pa Las Baby's y Belikeada album. Released as a single, it topped the Mexican charts, Fuerza Regida's fourth chart-topper in their home country following "Bebe Dame," "Sabor Fresa" and "Que Onda."
  • The song was later included as the final track on Sugar Papi, Marshmello's first Latin album. "I've always been eager to make a body of work [but] wasn't sure when the right time was," he told Billboard. "Sony Latin reached out to me and was like, 'Hey, would you like to do a Latin album?' I'd always wanted to tap into Latin music and it just seemed like a perfect time for us to knock out the album I've always wanted to do... It was a no brainer."
  • While most Sugar Papi tracks are rooted in Latin rap, trap, and reggaeton, the studio was a no-holds-barred zone. "I showed up in Miami to write this album and was like, 'I don't have anything prepared, Part of my job, my main job, is on the spot creation,'" Marshmello chuckled.

That on-the-fly approach not only facilitated quick thinking but also enabled the squishy producer and his collaborators to wrap up the entire album in less than two weeks.
