Songfacts®:

  • When Gabrielle took part in the second series of the British reality competition The Masked Singer under the guise of Harlequin, it gave her career a boost. She finished in fourth place and released this song on February 2, 2021, shortly after her elimination.
  • Gabrielle wrote "Stop Right Now" with Ben Cullum, brother of jazz pianist and radio presenter Jamie Cullum. She told The Sun: "It's a song about being in love, about going through a difficult relationship and stopping it with the view of getting back together again. It's about hope. It's such a feel good song that I was dancing around in my kitchen to it."
  • "Stop Right Now" is the lead single from Gabrielle's seventh studio album Do It Again. Primarily a covers album, it is one of two new original songs. Gabrielle told The Sun: "The album was inspired by The Masked Singer. I've sung some amazing songs. And at the end, those closest to me were saying it would be great if you can bring those songs to life on your own covers album."
  • Ian Barter produced the song along with the rest of the Do It Again tracks. Barter's other credits include Dermot Kennedy's "Couldn't Tell."
  • Do It Again peaked at #4 on the UK albums chart, making it Gabrielle's most successful set since her 1999's chart-topping Rise.
