Songfacts®:

  • "Immune" is about urban vampires who suck the identities from their victims by emulating their fashion sense and behavior patterns. Also known as poseurs.
  • The dialogue in the beginning ("We have come here from all over the world because society has no further use for you...") is from the 1994 movie No Escape. It's from a scene where Walter Marek (played by Stuart Wilson) is addressing his gang of "Outsiders" on a secret penal island.
  • Godsmack lead singer Sully Erna, bass player Robbie Merril and guitarist Tony Rombola are all credited as writers on "Immune." The song first appeared on their 1997 album All Wound Up..., released independently while they were building a fan base in the Boston area. The got a deal with Universal/Republic the next year, and in 1999 it was included on their major-label debut, Godsmack, along with other tracks from All Wound Up..., including "Voodoo" and "Whatever." When the album took off and Godsmack went global, longtime fans in their native Massachusetts would tell anyone who would listen that they saw them perform these songs long before they were big.

  • Zero from Nowhere, Nj"You've been sent here from all over the world because society has no further use for you. This place will be your holding pen until your death.
I'm very good in this business, because I make all the rules. But if you break any of my rules, you'll find out there really is life after death."

"What's the matter with your own ways? Why are you freakin' me out again? No.
What's the matter with your own mind? You can't be yourself anymore when you're suckin out my life from under me."
