Songfacts®:

  • "Look Ma, No Brains" is a short, fast punk rock song with sarcastic lyrics about being a dropout, a knucklehead, and a deviant. Billy Joe Armstrong's message is, he doesn't care what people think because it's OK to be different.
  • Though its title is reminiscent of "American Idiot," they are two completely different songs. "American Idiot" is a political rock opera where Green Day slams the biased media for orchestrating idiocy among the public. "Look Ma, No Brains" is a return to the band's punk roots, which lyrically recalls the band's rebellious early days.
  • Green Day first performed the song during the 2023 When We Were Young festival at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on October 21, 2023, in Las Vegas. Three days later it was released alongside "The American Dream Is Killing Me" on a limited 7-inch vinyl single.

"Look Ma, No Brains" was released on all formats on November 2, 2023 as the second single from the band's 14th studio album, Saviors.
  • Green Day composed the music. It was produced by Rob Cavallo, who has worked with the band on many of their previous albums, including Dookie and American Idiot.
