Songfacts®:

  • This song is about being too weak, and too much of a push-over to stand up for yourself. It reflects Green Day's ascent out of the punk clubs and onto the pop charts with their 1994 Dookie album, which was packed with hits and made them fixtures on MTV. They didn't feel like they fit into this environment, which led to "Stuck With Me," a track on their next album, Insomniac.
  • Like many Green Day songs, the title isn't in the lyric, and in this case, it only received its title after a studio mix up. They had a different song they called "Stuck With Me" that somehow got switched up with this one; the band thought it was a better fit so they kept it. The other song ended up titled "Do Da Da" and didn't make the album - it showed up in 2002 on their compilation Shenanigans.
