• Gunna's Gift & a Curse album was released on June 16, 2023, shortly after he was released from jail after taking an Alford plea (a formal admission of guilt made while also maintaining innocence). The record dives straight into the gritty drama surrounding him, with allegations of snitching. But Gunna isn't having any of that. He sets the record straight and straight-up claps back at those talking smack.
  
  On this banging track, Gunna taps into the same melodic flow that put him on the rap map. Despite going through some dark times, he's still repping that confident attitude like a boss. His lyrics are pure braggadocio, showing the world that he's back and stronger than ever.
• Dunk Rock and Florian "Flo" Ongonga produced the track. LA producer Dunk Rock previously collaborated with Gunna on his 2020 Wunna cut "Cooler Than A Bitch." Florian "Flo" Ongonga is a recording and mixing engineer based at Soul Asylum Studios in Atlanta. He also contributed to the production of the A Gift & a Curse tracks "Ca$h $--t" and "Rodeo Dr."
• "Fukumean" had fans showering it with love all over social media. The track took over TikTok, blowing up in thousands of videos. They showed folks vibing to the Atlanta rapper with captions along the lines of, "me still listening to Gunna even though he snitched."
• "Fukumean" came together spontaneously during a late-night studio session at an Airbnb in Miami. "'Fukumean' is a fun song," Gunna told Billboard. "It's energy, good vibes, Miami."
  
  The rapper was working with producers and writers Dunk Rock, P Litty, Nechie and Florian "Flo" Ongonga when the track began taking shape. The room was full of friends, music and what Gunna described as "a bunch of beautiful women." One guest, a woman from Morocco who had lived in Paris, caught everyone's attention with her distinctive French accent as she casually repeated "yuh." Gunna liked the sound so much that he asked her to record it, then looped the vocal throughout the song.
• The title phrase emerged organically. After Gunna said "fukumean" during the session, Nechie suggested everyone in the room shout it together.
  
  "'Man, you need to say 'f- you mean' with everybody in the room,'" Gunna recalled. "Whole room like, 'fukumean?' That's why it sounds like a lot of people when you hear 'f- you mean,' 'cause there was a lot of people in the room."
• Like many of his songs, "Fukumean" began as a freestyle. Gunna explained he starts by recording whatever he's feeling in the moment before shaping those ideas into a finished track. "How I make a song, I freestyle and just kind of dissect it," he said. "But it starts off with my feelings and just how I'm feeling today."
