This was the first song to be released from Pop-Rock band Hot Chelle Rae's sophomore album. The band wrote the track in early 2011. "On this next album, we have some material that's a little bit more of a throwback, but this one felt like it was the right song at the right time," said frontman Ryan Follesé to Billboard magazine when the track was first made available.
While the song details Hot Chelle Rae being hooked on a girl they can't resist, the PR Brown-directed video set in Los Angeles follows each band member with a crush on the same blonde. However, each of the quartet have their pursuit thwarted by what appears to be a technical malfunction.
"Sloop John B" is a traditional West Indian folk song, and it was a huge hit for The Beach Boys in 1966. They tweaked the lyric, "This is the worst trip since I've been born" to "...I've ever been on" as a wink to acid culture.
Carla Thomas became the first woman to achieve a Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 with a song she wrote herself when "Gee Whiz (Look At His Eyes)" reached the chart's top tier in 1961. Thomas was just 16-years-old when she penned it.
