Jackson Dean

Jackson Dean Artistfacts

  • October 6, 2000
  • Jackson Dean is known for a gritty, soul-forward brand of country music that leans hard into storytelling, with breakout songs including "Don't Come Lookin'" and "Heavens To Betsy." He built a reputation as a high-impact live performer, pairing traditional country themes with rock muscle and outlaw attitude.
  • Born Jackson Dean Nicholson in Odenton, Maryland, he was already selling out local bars while still in high school, playing the same Maryland circuit that produced Brothers Osborne. He began commuting to Tennessee in his teens, writing during the week and driving back to Maryland on weekends to play what he described as "freight-packed" shows up and down the Eastern Seaboard.
  • At 18, Dean moved into a one-room cinderblock shack on his grandfather's property with no heat and no plumbing, using the isolation to sharpen his songwriting and figure out who he was as an artist without distraction.
  • After opening shows for Kane Brown, Jake Owen, and Brothers Osborne, Dean caught the attention of Big Machine Records, which signed him in 2021. That same year, he released a self-titled EP, followed in 2022 by his debut album, Greenbroke. The record's lead single, "Don't Come Lookin'," crossed over beyond country radio and became his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.
  • Dean is hands-on as a writer, co-writing every track on Greenbroke and quickly earning a reputation for old-school, lyric-driven country that tilts toward outlaw grit. The album title comes from horse-training slang: a "green broke" horse isn't fully tamed. Dean has said the phrase mirrors how he sees himself: untamed, but rideable.
  • Offstage, Dean is something of a throwback free spirit. He's drawn to the wilderness, spends time crafting leather goods and wood-burned art, and likes to disappear into the woods to sleep under the stars.
